TEAMROBOT Added a comment about video ELLIOTT HEAP - Trail Bike Madness - Vital RAW

A 130mm 27.5 fork has 90mm less leverage acting on it than a 180mm 29" fork, so all else being equal Elliott's Pike is probably stiffer than the long travel Lyrik's we were talking about. Just sayin.

I went from a 170mm 36 on my Megatower to a 180mm Zeb and I'm roundly impressed by the new fork and pleased with the change. It's a huge improvement over the 36 it replaced in every respect. Yes, I can definitely feel the increased stiffness, but I appreciate the more linear air spring and I like the taller stack...

Not sure if Intense or Canyon are winning at holding off releasing new enduro bikes in case geo progression suddenly regresses back 5 years.

How you ride matters more than weight. If you double your weight you double impact energy. If you double your speed you'll have 4x the impact energy.

I like the added stiffness if only for confidence. Might actually add to arm pump but it feels like you can run into/over anything. And the bigger forks look cool- which is a legit selling point like it or not Smile

TEAMROBOT Added a reply to Scout vs SB140 vs similar bikes

Nice! That's a great friend to hook you up like that. I think you've got enough bike there to do anything, and you should be set for a long, long time if you keep up with maintenance. You could race a NW Cup downhill race on that bike, then change tires and do a cross country race the next weekend...

TEAMROBOT Added a comment about feature REVIEW - 2021 Santa Cruz Nomad - Go Anywhere, Do Anything

I think long-travel bikes like this are the bees knees. I can only have one mountain bike due to money and space. I chose a long-travel bike, and I love it. My bike is a 180 front/160 rear Megatower, but pretty similar to the Nomad reviewed. It climbs technical stuff surprisingly well, and I'm able to keep up with most people everywhere. When I ride somewhere flat and boring I either lockout front and rear, add 10 psi to the shock, pump up the tires, or do all of the above. I have to work a little harder to go...

He's lying. The only things worth riding in Whistler are in the bike park.

I'm sad because I love both of them the Syndicate and Loris . It should be hard to start to a new family but in the same in a racer world where you need also new challenge I understand he may want some more. All the best Loris.

"Actually you want to weight the bars pretty heavily. Escpecially when climbing. You use your abs and back to pull the bars backwards and down and towards the bb." I disagree with this advice. There are very few times on extremely steep technical climbs where I'll pull the bars back and down, but everywhere else the handlebars are just a...

Great thread fa sho, don't stop now. I'm 5'8" and moved from a bike with 420 reach to 450, same stack (within 2mm), and a steeper seat tube angle puts the effective top tube within 5mm of my old bike. Been riding 15 years and have never had so much difficulty getting the fit right. I feel stretched out and over the front wheel on the steeps. Have measured the bike in every possible way and the cockpit is almost identical to my old bike. I think the issue is once I'm out of the saddle, the difference in reach...

I don't want to masquerade as an "experienced" guy, but I understand the answer is, "not very much." You want to be heavy on the pedals and light on the bars. And thanks, everyone, for all the replies.

I've been studying bike setup for 25 years and coaching for 21, these are my thoughts. Precise handle height is more important than I realized! Many of my students' handlebars are too high and often we lower them 10-50mm, to get them in a better, more confident position. Often bikes come from the shop in the most comfortable position with 20-50mm of spacers under the stem and riser bars (bars that ride 15 to 40mm higher than the stem). This feels good in the parking lot and while seated and pedaling on mellow terrain but when you want to ride...
