In 1992 I didn’t think it could get any better than my Giant ATX. In 1994 I was convinced my Trek 8000 was the pinnacle. In 1999 a DBR X6 was my first full suspension bike. USA made with a Marzocchi Junior T with a QR axle. That was definitely the shit. Then in 2002 I got a Bullit with a Super T. Best bike ever! In 2013 I got my first 29er trail bike. Changed my world. But now it’s 2020 and I can’t imagine riding any of those old bikes or any of the in-betweeners I didn’t mention...

Big Bird Liked a comment about Feature SILENT, INSTANT - New BOX Stealth Hubs

9/8/2020 11:58am
Back in the late early '00s, when the first instant engagement hubs almost came out, my friend Joey of OTM/180 Mag was instrumental in getting prototypes to professional trials riders for testing. And they didn't hold up to the kind of torque involved in big rear wheel gaps. (I guess that was True Precision?) I'm very curious whether these Box hubs or those from Onyx have been properly tested under such conditions and whether or not they hold up to such power. If they're claiming Pro BMX gate start success, then something must have changed in design or materials used...

That information was not given prior to launch. Now that the bike is public, we went to the Privateer site, looked up the information you are asking about, and added it to the release.

I have to assume you're referring to the author, not the comments? If so, the comparison makes perfect sense. They are the 2 similarly priced complete builds from 1 brand and very differently speced. This really helps people wondering if they should buy and race one or the other straight out of the box, no mods.

Exactly. It's not a scrub if you don't slide off the lip. Scrubs are possible on a mountain bike, but they're ridiculously hard. Eliot Jackson, Aaron Gwin, Ian Morrison, and maybe three other people in the world have done a legit tire-sliding scrub on an MTB, and for those guys it's still kind of a roll of the dice every time- sometimes the tire slides too far and they can't pull it back. I don't see the benefit of watering down the word and losing sight of how enormously hard an actual MTB scrub is. That would be like me...

Yea, that newly design Maxxis Shorty(?) should be available soon (I hope). Have seen it on a number of bikes now New Shorty?: https://www.instagram.com/p/CEhc4cJC-gq/?utm_source=ig_embed https://p.vitalmtb.com/photos/users/2/slideshows/13106/photos/36020/s16… https://p.vitalmtb.com/photos/users/2/slideshows/13106/photos/36019/s16… New Unknown Tire: https://www.instagram.com/p/CEOISRGp6Lb/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CEKXbyKCCRl/ Loic and Finn have obviously been on Maxxis for the past season or two. So I'm assuming that this new new tire Loic is running is another Maxxis. It's Sharpied out so it looks to be another Maxxis. On a related note, one of the tech editors from another site has mentioned that his favorite wet conditions tire is still under embargo. So it's likely one of these two...
