DVO has made improvements to the Onyx SC, more running changes than anything. New lower casting, bushings, coating on stanchions, air piston, damper seal head, compression tune… enough that I’m surprised they have been so quiet about it.
Since they're on the above bikes, has anyone heard anything from DVO lately? They really seemed to drop off the map after the year Giant picked them up and seemed to be fading slightly before that as well. Maybe it's just in Canada but they seem to have pulled an X-fusion and just completely vanished here in the north.
Must.... not....lust.... for cannondale...... but I must I'm glad they're figuring it out. While I appreciated their bikes for the outside the box approach, it also made it hard to explain to customers why we couldn't work on their bike because we couldn't get parts and there was no cannondale dealer near by or help people doing race support because regular parts didn't work on their bike.
If I remember correctly from the launch, the Dissector was meant as a DH/gravity rear tyre or a front (light) trail tyre with something even less aggressive than the Aggressor on the rear.
I think it was originally billed as a front and rear option when it was rolled out, but then people eventually just relegated it to rear tire/braking duty.
This is really only true in SoCal and the SF Bay Area. Other parts of California treat MTB riders like proper stewards of the land. Where I live, near the Sierra National Forest, we have an MTB club that actively maintains a huge trail network on national forest lands (with permission from USFS), and we were granted access to private property owned by Southern California Edison (utility provider) to build a massive network of legit DH trails like this one...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJOFmHEzsds&t=371s. SCE literally gave us our own keys to the gate and allowed moto access to quickly reach trail work areas...
You mean the one place in Laguna that tickets riders? Yeah, Laguna is lame like that. I don't like that city at all. But there are a million options to MTB in SoCal and they are either legal or they are pirate trails where you really don't have to worry about a park ranger. That Laguna one just gets a lot of "press" because it has access to some great trails and people willing go to it (avoiding all the other great places to ride) and then have a cry on social media about how they got caught. I dunno...
When I did this I checked deep into the numbers. The axle to crown for a DH fork is only about10-15mm more than the rxf36 m.2 I had on there...so it screws with it slightly (.1 inches higher BB, 1 degree slacker HA. I actually wanted the slacker HA, and got 30mm of more travel out of the front end. Bars can be exact same height. Now this is t a perfect bike by any means. Heavier for pedaling up for sure, sucks for technical climbing. But climbing fire roads in this thing and having a blast for “smashy bike”...
Hey thank you guys so much for sharing this, especially with so much going on over the past few months. I know i upset some people by speaking out and advocating for others like me, and I really wasn't sure if that would ruin things when it came to bigger websites like this being willing to feature any of our videos moving forward. Seeing this pop on the homepage was a huge surprise and it not only made me smile but literally brought a few tears to my eyes. I appreciate you guys so much and I am so grateful...
