What a disgrace!! Not only are we a long way from having an established domestic racing series to prepare our athletes for the world cup stage, but while the sport is at an all-time high in terms of participation (there were 40+ middle schoolers racing our local enduro! , the governing bodies and infrastructure to support competitive cycling are sorely lacking. I've been trying to get a response from USAC since October about Nationals, and while they started off answering me politely, they no longer bother replying. It's no wonder our top American athletes aren't showing up to compete in...

Ideally find out the shock tune (compression tune/rebound tune) of the current shock and see if it's same as one off a higher-end version of the same frame. If you can find a upgrade shock with that tune- you'll be good. You can go to a different tune- just be aware that it will change the feel of the suspension. If you are heavier than average you might be good to go to a heavier compression tune for example. If you are lighter than average and you get a heavier compression tune it will likely feel harsh. As long as the shock is 205x60 it will fit and give you 146mm of travel. Also, consider frame clearance limitations if going to coil shock. The part you read about is that guy removed the travel limiting spacer on the shock turning it into 62.5 or 65mm stroke. The tricky part is getting a shock tune that will suit the kinematic of your range. 95% of people do not consider this when upgrading shocks.
