Treks buisness model for shops is single brand, either Trek owned or independent (but dictated to). They openly aspire to the Apple of the bike world (or whatever they latest buzzword book Burke has read this week).But being a single brand and not having a comprehensive range of models leaves you open to lost sales to the competition that fills the gaps. Despite what 'we' (as discerning mtbers) think ,the large majority of purchases are made on colour and price and don't really care what is written on the downtube. I like how Trek frame this as 'right sizing' in...

In Northern California theyre everywhere. More than regular bikes. A majority of them are people riding them that could/should be riding a normal bike. We see the often 50+ year which is cool. But it makes me think “JFC” seeing more 20-30 year olds on them. They are most definitely not using at a training tool going stupid fast on climbs and not breaking a sweat.

Being an engineer doesn’t automatically make someone a capable mechanic

I don't know the person in question, but I can tell you that after 26 years of turning wrenches for a living that neither being an engineer or a good (even great) rider absolutely DOES NOT mean that you know how to work on bikes.

HA! Or that... I had a feeling he was going off the rails when his first move was to pair the Mavens with XTR rotors. He should have read the manual instead.
