If I remember correctly Trek didn’t go with the highest/most aggressive pivot and idler placement. They actually still have some pedal kick/chain influence through the travel. So I guess the Ochain cancels the rest of that out without having the drawbacks of the higher pivot in terms of growing rear center. I think the Session’s total rear axle movement is quite small compared to a Forbidden or the last gen Supreme.

Would a O-chain on a bike with an idler be redundant? No sarcasm, genuine question as I have never been able to try an O-chain, it just seems like the two are doing the same job?

Your original question is sort of like when I ask the dentist "What's more important, brushing or flossing?" Dentists hate that question because both actions work together as a system. What's funny is I typically get different answers.
