Frida Ronning, Elite rider for the Union, earned a downhill victory at the 2024 Tennessee National at Windrock Bike Park aboard her Trek Session. The Union has moved from Santa Cruz frames and Ohlins suspension to Trek Session DH bikes equipped with  SRAM components and RockShox squishers this year. They're rolling on ENVE wheels, which is also new for them, and continue to rock Maxxis tires and Deity cockpits. The changes to the builds have proven positive as just a week earlier, Frida's teammates, Lachie Stevens-Mcnab and Ellie Hulsebosch, both won downhill races at Crankworx Rotorua in New Zealand. If I remember correctly Trek didn’t go with the highest/most aggressive pivot and idler placement.  They actually still have some pedal kick/chain influence through the travel. So I guess the Ochain cancels the rest of that out without having the drawbacks of the higher pivot in terms of growing rear center. I think the Session’s total rear axle movement is quite small compared to a Forbidden or the last gen Supreme.

Would a O-chain on a bike with an idler be redundant? No sarcasm, genuine question as I have never been able to try an O-chain, it just seems like the two are doing the same job?

Antisquat comes from the chain tension and the suspension geometry. Going from 26 towards 29" bikes the rear axle has been moving upwards compared to the BB (BB rise going to BB drop) and that has made the suspension geometry worse antisquat wise, requiring more of it to be chain tension dependant and giving more pedal kickback. High pivots reverse this.

If you go high enough with the pivot, you'll need to PROMOTE suspension compression with the chain (routed far above the pivot point) to oppose the suspension geometry component of the antisquat.
