RoJo1 Added a reply to High vs. Low Tire Pressures: Which Is Faster?

Great test. I'm not entirely sure on the assumption that higher pressure = lower rolling resistance for MTB. Higher pressure can cause your c of g to have to rise/fall more over bumps and dissipate energy. If you had the appetite then straight line rolling tests over a variety of surface roughnesses would be cool.
We all know the theory: lower tire pressures mean more grip, and higher pressures roll faster. But when it comes to real-world speed, which one really wins? I set out to answer this with 30 timed runs down the same track. ◾ The Experiment Two sets of tire pressures were chosen for my 88kg (194lbs) weight: 25/28 psi (front/rear) for the higher pressures and 18/20 psi (front/rear) for the lower pressures. These pressures maintain a consistent 0.9 front-to-rear ratio, with the high pressures aligning with recommendations such as those from E13 . After three warm-up laps, each tire pressure setup...

Great work on this! I'm really curious to see how the results stack up — the variety of tyres in your test should provide some useful insights. Will checkout the video!

Great test! I bet the DHF would still win this... ok, I'll crawl off to that old guy thread now, lol. Edit: I really like how you did a head-to-head comparison each day to control for the day's conditions and your comfort with the track.

Amazing test! The results are surprising (to me at least). What is it in your opinion that makes the vigilante so fast?

I can tell you that the Argotal is absolutely horrible on hardpack or loose over hard, so they'd knock it down for that. The shoulder lugs just fold over way too easily leading to loss of traction. It's fantastic on softer surfaces and rolls nicely otherwise.

Interesting how poorly the Schwalbe fared. I have the Radial Albert and for sure I would not put it out front, but it seems pretty good to me and very impressed by the hard wearing nature of it. It takes a long time to figure out the pressures, you need easily 5psi more than a non radial tyre.

Doing some micro-shootouts comparing a few tires (or products in other categories) is high on our to-do list next year. Everything is so good these days, that zooming in and comparing some really similar products would be rad. Especially with tires when visually so many look similar. I also really want to ride the Shredda. Thing looks mean. It's also very on-brand for me....

Alright, here is my two cents on Schwalbe's radial casing and the Albert. Sorry for word-barfing so hard in a forum. So we tested the Albert at the end of summer before it launched as part of a gravity tire shootout that's dropping next week. I know, a bit of a delay. But we didn't have any information about the tire during the test, and **spoiler** it ended up being our least favorite. Part of this was due to the lack of support and damping from the casing. Part of it was due to the tread design struggling to bite...

Early observations and new questions With the benefit of the big picture and despite the funny business with the "time" axis having a misleading scale, y'all can just see that Bike Setup B approaches and maybe even ends up faster than Bike Setup A, eventually. I'll show how I did the statistical tests in the next post and ask if it seems convincing and how you might have done it differently. But I think some cool things happened in the early observations. Here's when the parts started appearing that I think might help others as they think about their testing...

Would you be willing to send a file with the raw data? I am an Engineer in the industry and would like a stab at doing some analysis on that to maybe answer some questions and pull-out contributing factors.
