We've had zero issues with bearing life or even paint for that matter and im going to say it: 100% success rate in washing with a pressure washer(being a basic one on 'fan' mode.) without 1 bearing failure from water. Build your bike to make it easy Maintenace for a customer the mtb industry moved away from exposed bearings many years ago so this issue of pressure washing risk of bearing rust should be next to gone if using a proper shielded washer/thick grease.

Oh…did anyone else see the guy pissing on the Start Hut at the gate during Q2? Dead center of frame. 43:55 is the time stamp as Baptiste Pierron is in the gate. https://youtu.be/guJnr4OzvKU?si=7g7LU9q5PpTWV1q7

Fine if you feel that way, but I try to ask for riders opinions on the current state of the sport and also anything happening inside so people from the outside can learn more, Finns response was great and a lot people enjoyed his opinions. I interview riders who are doing well in the race, on race day my video is to tell the story of the race. I can't make a judgement on a case where no one actually knows the full story, and we never will it seems, so until then I will interview the riders who performed...

We spent so much time worrying about pedal kickback that we didn't stop to consider pedal kickforward

Grid Trail is at least as good as EXO+. I have never flatted that casing on the front or rear since I started running Specialized over Maxxis three years ago, but most of the time I'm on full gravity casing rear (have never flatted that casing, too). I have the new Butcher/Eliminator combo mounted up now in full gravity 2.6/2.4...

I dug back into the vital archives just to see how much we've kicked around these ideas (posted a handful of links below). The theme of this conversation dates back to 2017, when all the same talking points were echoed. From then to now the broad access problems e-bikes supposedly posed did not materialize. This isn't to say a few trails haven't been lost, but we've gained many more trails than we've lost in this period of time (for mtb and for e-mtb). To add, the areas we did lose trail are areas that have always been under fire due...

Three wheelers were made illegal to sell, not to own, and then the market eventually took care of it. Other than riding on private property, what use case is there for a Surron or light electric motorcycle? They seem like lame small motos to me, that are only actually useful for poaching MTB trails and illegally riding on the road...
Make them illegal to sell or import, or some other avenue to shame them out of existence? Seems like they have created an impossible to regulate situation, unless they don't exist in the first place. Three wheelers used to be a scourge that killed or maimed their own riders - now they are not.

This won't get the attention it deserves. Very well done. Best content in DH rn.

I put the Purgatory in the same class as something like a Forekaster or Aggressor. I ran one in a super pedally enduro combined with a Butcher front where rolling resistance was very important and it was great, but it came off immediately after. It's like a mini Butcher with fast rolling, short knobs great for hardpack. Not in the...

I am over 190lbs kitted up and nothing is better than Specialized tires for the price, so always watching new developments closely on their side. Gravity casing has always been my choice on the rear, and I've never flatted a Grid Trail on the front. All the new pattern Butchers and Eliminators I've picked up are gravity casing, and I'm...

Did anyone else recently hear the DH WC announcers mention prototype Specialized tires under Bruni or Finn?? I swear I heard something like this recently, but forgot if it was Poland or Loudenville. I have brand new design Butchers and Cannibals on my workbench and they are very, very similar. Anyone heard chatter on updated DH Spec tires in the...
I wish the Presta valve would hurry up and die industry-wide for MTB and everyone used something better as the standard. Not $50 Presta-shaped wonder-valves as the placeholder fix of the day. Maybe I should start drilling my rims for Schrader. Doesn't seem like it causes problems. Just very scary to take the drill to fancy-brand carbon hoops.

North Shore Indoor Bike Park (on THE North Shore, Van BC) is getting killed by pickleball. It appears they are carrying on and moving out to the lower rent, and less geriatric zone of Maple Ridge. There's an interesting side story here of how the popularity of pickleball appears to be competing for, and taking over spaces that smaller groups...

rockies_alpine Added a reply to Is There Much Point In Frame Wraps?

3/25/2025 6:42am
I full wrapped and the frame will look beat anyway by the time it goes to the next owner. The wrap has kept the paint looking decent in big open spots flat spots that would easy to wrap DIY. The custom cut wrap doesn't like to adhere long term to the small intricate frame areas. Or where it rubs on...

The old Eliminator is the tire I always wanted the Dissector to be - faster rolling than DHR2 or similar, decent all-arounder, good wear characteristics and good enough cornering traction for the compromises. I always rode it in 2.6 29" T7/9 gravity and never found it lacking in cornering prowess because it has the same side knobs as the old...
