Some of us want a shoe that more closely resembles a skate shoe rather than a hiking/approach shoe. Aesthetics are highly subjective.

Anyone else destroy the laces on the Freerider Pros in less than a year? The first eyelet does a slice and dice number on the cheap laces. Maybe I pull too hard...

Eventually I switched back to flats full time. I began to gravitate towards mid-foot placement on flat pedals for stability, control, and power. It seems much more natural to me than pedaling...
