Mountain biking since 1996 when I bought one to commute to work in London and started seeking out the interesting ways home.

First 'proper' bike (GT Zaskar with XT and Judy XCs) bought with student loan in 1997

Started reading Dirt magazine, riding street and jumps - bought one of the first Orange MsIsles from the bike shop I was 'working' at in 1998

Makes you realise how close these guys are in speed , you think of rider X being way faster than another but in reality it's fuck all , if there was a ghost rider video with the top 10 on screen at the same time there would be hardly anything in it.

I'm tired of WC racers complaining about tracks not suiting their skillsets. F*ck off already and adapt. Variety is good, and the guys who come out on top at the end of the season are the ones who can ride everything. I can't believe guys like Hill and Brendan still haven't adapted to pedally tracks like others have. You are all racing the same courses after all.

Thanks for these write-ups Jared, they've been great to read throughout the season. Despite all the photo-journals and videos we as spectators have access to in this day and age, your write-ups have consistently been a highlight of the race-watching experience for me. Your preparation, commitment and professionalism are great to watch. Congrats on your medal, may there be plenty more to come, and good luck with the final EWS race. And, may 2014 be the year of Jared for the EWS Champion....

I have a request to make for all and/or just one of the Vital MTB photo contributors. There's always talk of how much the course changes during a race weekend at a World Cup. What if one of you was to build a set camera mount a la (I forget which film where they shot the same trail in all four different seasons and blended them all together with washes to make the seasons chase the rider down the hill.) so that you can come back to the same spot and shoot the same angle of the track. That way...

Denk adds huge legitimacy to the I Drive redesign...if he did not think it would work he would not have used it...bravo to GT for a truly new bike that is not a massaged version of old technology....note that FSR came from AMP in Laguna Beach almost 25 years ago...

I'm guessing that as with the proto DH frames they're riding at the moment - any production version would be full carbon. The front end looks pretty basic for the purposes of testing geometry etc I'm pleased to see them making use of the Atherton's talent/steeze/experience/intuition to develop the frames. GT were one of my first loves ('97 Zaskar) but none of the i-Drives have ever really done it for me - these are moving in the right direction. Looks long, too.
