Mountain biking since 1996 when I bought one to commute to work in London and started seeking out the interesting ways home.

First 'proper' bike (GT Zaskar with XT and Judy XCs) bought with student loan in 1997

Started reading Dirt magazine, riding street and jumps - bought one of the first Orange MsIsles from the bike shop I was 'working' at in 1998

This is the case of getting enough speed, not the size of the gap. And if some of the fastest racers in the world have issues getting speed, you think it would be otherwise for Fest people? The run ins at Fest are all smooth and clean. Not the case here. All the top 80 racers could clear any gap at Fest any time. Not sure if the guys from Fest would make the cut in the finals at a World Cup. Though, I have full respect and apreciation for both of them. The gaps aren't babies, and it's not...

The beauty of not having electric assist- The higher you make your way into the trail system, the less gapers and people overall crowding the trails. Electric assist is a horrendous idea. If you're too lazy to pedal to the top, stick to the lifts. At least then we know what trails to avoid. They look massively fun but so does blowing shit up. However, you don't see me in the streets throwing molotov cocktails.

Cool to see - been a while. It's in the UK just North of London and is the training/coaching spot for UKbikeSkills. Used to see quite a few videos of this place back in the day via the old ChocolateFoot forum... from where it seems half the members decided they wanted the real thing and moved to Canadia.

I have a foxy and a Summum that I brought in from Europe to Canada. They were competitively priced from the store I got them from. And I was coming off a SC carbon and the foxy was cheaper and a much better ride.

I think it partly depends on the series and what level you're racing at. In the races that have seeding, you'll find yourself spending 1 or 2 whole days riding the transitions, talking lines and waiting to start stages with a bunch of riders of the same level as you (assuming your seeding run went to plan!) - who you either haven't met before, or have battled with on previous occasions. The lower down the pack you are - the more relaxed the pace/attitude and often the camaraderie is closer. In races without seeding, you'll tend to find yourself riding...

Very cool, a good insight into why MX is such good cross-training for DH too with regards the speed differentials and being able to 'see it coming a lot sooner' when on the bike vs. crosser or rally car.
