12/25/2024 11:19pm A Volvo costs as much as BMW, Mercedes, Audi but don't have the bling factor or perception of high performance that those 3 do. Rocky = Volvo in this analogy. Not knocking Volvo or Rocky I'd buy either one! (used)

12/25/2024 11:17pm Obviously it's huge. I mean I do still remember @TEAMROBOT explaining how it took him almost an hour to get to the first trail before he moved. To us that's incomprehensible, I don't want to move half an hour away from where u live because I would have less starting-from-home riding than I do here 😂

12/25/2024 11:17pm LOL have you seen the size of Canada? I don't think the average Euro can comprehend just how big Canada is unless they've been here and done some driving around.

12/25/2024 11:16pm I think it's an indication of the size of the country you inhabit. My sister lives in the US and thinks nothing of driving 7-8 hours and I have a Dutch friend who thinks driving somewhere over an hour away is a major mission.

12/22/2024 1:03pm Reading this and especially the ”general bike company” part made me think of the following: 1. people on forums, social media and commentary sections whining that bikes are too gimmicky and that model changes are too often gratuitous 2. bike company is doing nothing fancy, no gimmicks, just honing on a proven formula, that has made their product appreciated by...

12/22/2024 12:44pm I think Rocky still carries some of that "general bike company" feelings with some people. If you asked me 12 years ago if I'd buy a Rocky I'd have looked at you like a crazy person, they were more boring than Jamis other than DH and freeride bikes. Now they've been my last 3 bikes and I'm currently looking at the new Element. Yeah I work at a shop that sells them, but I have 5 other brands to pick from as well as other brands that still give industry deals that are most of the rest listed as high...

12/22/2024 7:42am I ride a Rocky Mountain e-bike and it has done two things to me: 1. bring my joy for riding back 2. make me buy another Rocky Mountain, a Slayer, which I also love Regarding point number one, it is my far the best e-bike I have ever ridden and it isn't about the fact that it has that extra...

12/22/2024 7:18am Based on what has been said about GT, it seems the decision was, for all intents and purposes, quite abrupt. Could be MS was making a deal or had a deal done before GT got the rug pulled from underneath of them. On the other hand you'd think someone approving budgets would know of both the option of GT getting hibernated AND the MS deal being in the works and might give a heads up on not letting the deal being made? On the third hand said person privy to that information could not care one bit about the MS...

12/20/2024 1:30am It takes over 2 years to bring a frame to market. That's with perfect timing that leaves little buffer for setbacks. Of course you can take short cuts and do it quicker, say 18 months but that's skipping out on critical areas of the development phase. Ideally the industry moves to a 4 year cycle to slow down the pace of things. The race to first and shortening timeliness is one of the reasons why the bike industry is in the place that it is today.

12/19/2024 3:11pm I know this isn't the conspiracy thread but I have a feeling that many brands are secretly happy with the new World Cup format. The big teams have less competition and the small ones might secretly be excited to be able to say "Oh Shucks, we will have to disband given these new constraints." I am sure that many people at these companies want to continue the team, but World Cup team budgets must have been feeling pressure in the last year or two. I wonder if brands were more on board with the changes to the format than they...

12/19/2024 9:06am Bummer to hear about the GT situation—really tough, especially given the history. I hope everyone who worked there lands on their feet quickly. My thoughts, in no particular order: Brand Equity: As others have mentioned, the perception and value of a brand are crucial, especially during a time of performance consolidation (where performance variance is shrinking). GT has long struggled to define its identity, perhaps trying to do too much: a value brand that also fields a World Cup team; a performance company but also one with bikes in big-box stores. Margin Erosion: While I can't say for sure, it...

12/19/2024 8:53am Please excuse me, but what the flying f*ck is Whoop, actually? I never got it all season long. Is it a new brand? Is it a media entity? Is it the new Rocky Roads (hello 2011!)? What is it? Thanks, Mx

12/19/2024 3:22am My GT story; In the years 2000-2001, I was working as a team technician and road manager for Schwinn Toyota RAV4 Racing, GT also was owned by Questor at the time. Our challenging experience began in August 2001 during a World Cup race in Arai, Japan. My company credit card was suddenly declined, and we started hearing rumors from the United States that Schwinn/GT was going bankrupt. Despite having our hotel pre-paid, we—myself and team members Elke, Leigh D, and Deldycke—found ourselves in a precarious situation. The office was giving us vague reassurances about potential loans and future payments, but...

12/19/2024 2:50am I don't know why people get so revved up because of the above I wrote, considering I mentioned where it comes from. We are on a forum, where we are passionate about bikes and people often drop rumours and things they hear. This is the case here. I personally doubt that this is how you revitalise a brand, but again...
