So now I'm spending a hundo on a fancy saw guide but still need to complete the job with hardware store bolt cutters? Oh, wait, maybe I'm supposed to spend 2 hundos on titanium bolt cutters so they matchy-match with my overpriced titanium hammer? It's an incomplete solution to a stupid problem.

Yeah, it's almost like internal cable routing is an enormous PITA no matter where it shows up on a bike.

So they made the saw guide able to go around cables, but what about the saw, and the cut off piece of steerer? I suppose you could rotate the guide around the steerer to cut from both sides and push the cables to the other sides, and then cutting the cut off piece in half, but that's going to be a huge pain. The guide needs a downward slot to facilitate halving the cut off piece easily. And nice of them to show some pics of cutting around cables.

And everyone wonders why Shimano's Freestroke adjust is called that... The "freestroke" wording works for some people to comprehend the adjustment, and with Hope's system you can actually see the cam moving and that helps people intuit what's happening. Shimano's system works the same way, but since you only see the lever moving when adjusting the freestroke screw, it confuses many people. However, the "bite point" wording and/or piston moving concept isn't completely wrong, since it does change the piston position "for a given lever position (after freestroke)", hence it moves the "bite point" in relation to lever to bar...

"No silver flat mount option yet" Not sure that is a "weakness". If you need flat mount and want silver, this isn't a weaker option than something else, it's just not an option at all.

The slow rebound rubber rather than stupidly soft has been preached by Michelin for at least 5 years, probably a bit more. If these work like Michelins I have no trouble imagine that they work well and wear well. Also a DH casing coming in at ~1300g in 29" isn't really a DH casing, most top DH tires are more around 1400-1500g in 29" these days.

Yeah, perhaps on new tires on a new bike, one should up the pressure a bit until one gets used to everything. I run Eliminator BD 2.3 in the back right now at 22 psi, and my 100 kgs and smashy-smash riding haven't busted them yet, despite impacts big enough to require some spoke wrench work. Since there is no BD casing for the new compounds, I'm still on the old Gripton slow-rebound compound, which I'm assuming is pretty close to t7, and yes while it's not as "gooey" to the touch as maxxgrip or supertacky, it does seem to...

3 punctures on one day and I would blame the PSI gauge.

Interesting perspective. So are you saying there’s no difference between a VW and an Audi or a Toyota and a Lexus or a Maxxis and a CST?

The VW/Audi analogy doesn’t work. Audi was previously owned by Daimler Benz and before that was Auto Union and before that separate company’s, hence the 4 rings. Lexus and Acura are just the American market premium brands for Toyota and Honda, well originally. This is what Cheng Shin did with Maxxis essentially, created a new brand to sell at a premium.

Your analogy doesn't prove what you think it does. Cheng Shin wholly owns Maxxis, just like Toyota owns Lexus, Honda owns Acura, VW owns Audi and so on. These sub-brands are created (not acquired) by the parent company to access a specific market. They leverage shared financial backing, shared applied technology, shared physical and intellectual assets, etc. to manufacture different product lines. Just because one division operates in Taiwan vs. China vs. anywhere else does not show that they are different companies. Maxxis was the vehicle that allowed CST to break into the American market. Maxxis claims proprietary compounds and...

So disappointed they nuked BLCK DMND. So silly to type the name, but that dual 120-tpi with the integrated sidewall support is sooo much better than DH-level dual-ply 60-tpi for AM/janky-trail riding. Saves like 150 grams, at least the same sidewall support if not more, and a much more supple/confoming under-tread casing. I run Grid or Exo+ in front and Blck Dmnd or Conti's Apex Protection in back: none of the maintenance issues but a bunch of the benefits compared to inserts.

Why not do like Magura, thicker rotors? Yes, it adds some grams, but from my experience it works better than thinner rotors on long decents.

Yeah, it's kinda weird to me that Shimano is dragging their feet to release thicker rotors and bigger rotors. Everyone else is making 220+ rotors that are 2.0mm or thicker, but Shimano keeps making small/thin Icetech rotors and insisting "it's better." Why not both? Hard to imagine heavy e-bike riders complaining about 220mm 2.3mm thick Icetech freeza rotors. When braking, more is typically better, especially when it helps keep heat down in a mineral oil brake system that doesn't like getting cooked. I know they offer the Deore level stainless rotor in a 220, so why not an Icetech or...

Hmmmmmm....may need to call Mythbusters or Veritasium.....but, black and white shed thermal energy at about the same rate, assuming that more energy (heat via light) is not being absorbed into the mass. caloric dissipation would be about identical...so, shall we say "Marketing"?

There is more to life than Wikipedia ;-) The black and white lacquered faces emit approximately equal amounts of infrared radiation. The reason for this is that white and black only appear as such within the visible light spectrum. If only the emitted thermal radiation is observed, which has longer wavelengths than visible light, both the white and black faces appear as so-called grey bodies; in other words, both radiate all wavelengths within this range with equal intensity. By contrast, the thermal emission of the metallic faces is much weaker. To that, your source seems to not let science get...

Yes, the white car doesn't get as hot because it reflects more. But that has nothing to do with how much heat it radiates on its own. The heat source is coming from the inside in this case: if you set fire to the inside of the cars, would the white car be any cooler on the outside, meaning less heat is getting transferred out of the system? Doubtful.
