Woosh! No shit. It's always cost and profiit. So they'll offshore things using that justification, but when that profit boost is minimized, they bring it back and talk just about how it's some kind "returning to our roots".

just6979 Added a reply to Bike Mechanic Simulator Game

The car mechanic simulator game (games?) on Steam actually seem to do quite well. So do the farm simulators, trucking simulators, etc, and there is a whole sub-genre in shared-world flight-sims of people who take on the role of air traffic controllers! I guess lots of people enjoy playing pretend and virtually doing [semi-]technical things in a virtual world.

I'll say it again, because it's important: keep telling your story, including/especially dealing with depression. I've also dealt with that, and I think a huge help for many people is just hearing that others have the same feelings, and are still here. But also, there are some things that I totally understand why people why say sound like what a conspiracy but would say. Breakthrough pain on opiates is nothing like breakthrough infections after vaccination. There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding of how vaccines work. Every immune response is different (hence the injuries you've experienced and seen)...

And no one says "Get the vaccine, then you can't get COVID, can't die from COVID, can't spread COVID." You slipped that in there as why you were ok with getting the vaccine initially, and skated over it pretty quick, but if that was your worldview then no wonder that view was blown up, it was flat wrong.

First, Kyle, keep telling your story as long as you think it'll help others. No one can change what you experienced and how you experienced it. But, a couple things you mentioned could easily be used against you. Avoiding them might help nullify some far left criticisms and help keep the far right from piggybacking on and politicizing your experience. Maybe don't mention religious exemptions, especially regarding fetal stem cells. They were not used to create, and are not present in, the mRNA vaccines themselves, only in a small portion of the testing process. And the leaders of all major...

"Descending the bike is very quiet with the normal noises expected from rocks and trail debris hitting the downtube of an aluminum frame." How about chain hitting the ground noise? I know people like to say tongue-in-cheek that SRAM's "clutch" is just a strong spring, but it sure seems like the NX clutch is pretty useless in that pic next to the "Rear Suspension" section, with the chain literally on the ground.

IMO, Red Bull TV is also "large, corporate media." But they've mostly done a good job with the WCDH broadcasts and I loved being able to watch the replays after work for free. I really hope a free viewing option remains and that the quality of coverage--camera angles, commentary, etc--doesn't drop with this move.

Do Centerlock rotors not come with lockrings? Every 6-bolt rotor I've ever bought came with bolts. If not, it's pretty lame to not include lockrings with the hubs.

The cost of repairing mountain bikes is totally prohibitive for the average user. Think about how much you'd spend on repairs if you had to do 100% of repairs at your LBS, and how many days/weeks/months you'd be out of a bike while it's in getting repaired? In the last year for me: Suspension service multiple times Changing tires multiple times Brake pads and bleeds multiple times Rear rim replaced Multiple drivetrain components broken/repaired/replaced It would cost me a small fortune and my bike would spend more time in the shop than out. I know I'm a frequent rider and...

Taldfind, what you say is true and not true all at the same time. Your points regarding individual decision-making are valid, but there's ALWAYS room for innovation ahead of what the market is demanding at this moment. Visionary marketing leads the market instead of simply responding to it. Henry Ford said: “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Similarly, no one was banging on Steve Jobs door and saying "give me a handheld phone/ipod/laptop/calendar." There's room in our industry for a brand to take a chance and make "boring" interesting again. "Boring" things...

The current bike industry model is built on consumerism and marginal gains. "10% stiffer" "54 grams lighter" "13 speeds!" It's possible to build an economy around durability, user-friendliness, and repair-ability, but that's just not our sport right now. It will take a cosmically huge shift in marketing for brands to see a benefit in encouraging riders keep their bikes longer, and until that happens we will continue to be a sport that leaves a lot of trash in our wake.

"What if I lose my valve cap? Ok, what if you lose your valve core?" But you don't have to take a core out to add air. I check pressure before every ride, and lost a cap just yesterday. Granted since you need to the cap to lock the valve, you're probably much less likely to lose a cap, it still is a vital part that needs to be removed completely to do the simple job of adding air. Also not sure exactly how it's going to prevent clogs... there is a still a seal inside that needs to be...

TEAMROBOT Liked a comment about Press Release Abbey Bike Tools Launches Three Brand New Tools

11/4/2021 11:05am
Abbey makes tools for two markets: bike shops and traveling bike mechanics, not home consumers. There isn't a bike shop on the planet that doesn't already have a set of bolt cutters on hand. And by the way, if you're not a bike shop charging by the hour, please feel free to take the extra hour to rebleed/rewire/recable your steerer tube instead of cutting the steerer tube with the wires/cables/hoses installed. I think this product isn't really for you.
