Maybe if there were a track that required constant accelerations the added weight might be detrimental, but that doesn't really describe a modern DH track. The same could be said about 29 inch wheels, but the fact that almost everyone has made the move to the bigger wheels suggests more of a premium on maintaining and gaining speed, and a heavy tire while being more difficult to accelerate is also going to hold that momentum once up to pace (much like a 29 inch wheel). yea, being able to withstand multiple impacts is another area where there's opportunity for improvement on helmets. it's honestly just more in line with how people use them. i know plenty of people who don't replace a helmet after a crash unless there's visible damage.

i didn't see anything regarding whether or not it could withstand multiple impacts. i think that's another area where there's room for substantial improvement because not every rider is going to replace a helmet after a single impact. I'm guilty of this myself. but my wife is still recovering from a concussion from a car accident that happened a year...

yea, that's where i found it. i'm glad to see more companies are stepping up and developing safety tech to help mitigate the risk of concussions. also nice to see them publishing (at least some of) the data behind their claims.

one of my big takeaways on this is the discrepancy on payouts re: road vs mtb, and that its time to start correcting this.

The article asks if the purse strings are too tight event promoters pay the riders-not really sure the question was answered here, but, I think you need someone with the insights from UCI and key race promoters to chime in on what it takes to get a top tier series/race off the ground-it's not just some course tape and a timing system.....and lets not forget about what it costs to stream this LIVE all over the f-ing world! always great to hear from Frank. one of the friendliest people I've ever met from the MTB community. The first time I ever met Frank was in the plattekill parking lot, probably '05 or '06, me and some buddies had uh, obtained, some logs from the woods after riding to make a bonfire but were only splitting with an ax. This sorta crunchy lookin dude comes over asks if we need a hand, and produces a chainsaw that looked like it could have been used in a horror movie from his van. Turned out to be Frank. Good times.
