That's sort of the frustrating part with Scott. They generally make great bikes. They put a great deal of effort into research and development and as a result you get a super polished bike that just plainly performs great. But then, with their bikes you also have to deal with annoying stuff like headset cable routing and shocks that are hidden in the frame. Goes to show that they are a company that maybe values engineering a bit too much for their own good. Take the headset routing as an example. From an engineering standpoint it makes a ton of...

So the Orange is kind of a unique case - in stock single pivot form they typically had a very flat leverage ratio with little rising rate which meant the initial travel would have had quite a low leverage ratio relatively speaking. The linkage allow for more rising rate so while the average leverage ratio will have been lower, the initial ratio was probably higher. As for choosing shock length - its one of those things that is a sum of several factors - there will be a target rising rate at the wheel, which then needs to be mapped...

Obviously, it's hard to say exactly what they were going for with that orange... especially so when you consider the oddities of boost valve etc that was built into the suspension products of the time. Generally, related and along with spring rate, has to do with shaft speeds at the shock and then the resulting oil displacement within the damper. Higher leverage ratios mean higher shaft speeds, which means more oil displaced. There is a delicate balance between the amount of oil being displaced, the compression/rebound piston ports and shim stacks and the base valve shim stacks. Shocks back then...

Or any less annoying for mechanics. The new ransom features 6 bar suspension (loads of bearings), a hidden shock (self-explanatory), and headset routing (also self-explanatory). It might also have internal routing for on the fly suspension adjustments, but the move towards wireless stuff might make this unnecessary. Its a shame really as they're bikes seem to ride amazingly, and Ben Walker is an amazing engineer, and all of his self-built gamblers are very very cool

I just finished the vitalMX a1 podcast. ML said he went to the fox event before the race where they unveiled the 1 piece suit. He then said he was told that a few high level DH guys would wear them at some point this season. So the question is will it be worn at non WC events only or did the UCI change their rules?

I avoid the cost/value discussions as I think you're entitled to spend your money how you want but this is nuts.

From Jacks youchoob. Not sure what YT would be hiding other than a rear shock. Still, something to talk about on a Monday.

Dude, are you kidding me? The dreadnought rides like a freaking tractor trailer. It's a damn long bike that only gets longer. It knows one thing and its plow. It's the least sprightly bike I've ever ridden.

We've seen it and it's illegal in World Cup DH. I guess we can blame Palmer for looking so good in Moto gear. After him they banned skin suits.
