Could you imagine a DH series with no pedaling allowed? I think they do that for the pump-track world series. We also have a chainless category for our local beer league DH series and it's the most fun. 10/10 would support a move to chainless DH races. Ha ha.

Honestly I see a few still running gearboxes, that centralised weight does help with DH bikes and the changing gear while not pedalling is useful too. What I don't see them running is belts, they'd 100% be running them on chains instead because of how bad the belts are at clearing mud.

Let me say more clearly what was implied in my previous post: those old road bike rolling resistance tests tell me that our own internal rolling resistance gauges in our brains are not very trustworthy. I'm not convinced that radial tires roll slower because the only evidence we have is that they feel like they roll slower. 21mm tires pumped up to 120 psi feel fast as hell on asphalt. I swear this is SRAM propaganda: "It just doesn't make sense to add a more complex, harder-to-maintain, more expensive option that's locked to your frame and that no one has parts for." More complex to maintain? The Pinion service interval is 6,200 miles — people race entire seasons without touching their gearbox. Meanwhile derailleur drivetrains need constant adjustment and eat consumables, especially on ebikes. Gearboxes will take over ebikes within a few years — the motor negates the efficiency loss, the weight is low and centered, and ebike torque destroys conventional drivetrains anyway.
