5/8/2026 6:33am I'm hearing this sentiment often from many companies I'm talking to. However, "Mr. Market" is clearly saying something different. I literally cannot find one Avinox powered e-bike to buy right now, let alone get a brand to send me to test. They are out of stock across the board. This is at the crux of the power-wars problem. I know...

5/7/2026 2:55pm Fox Factory just reported Q1 earnings. I'm waiting for the conference call transcript to do my normal substack post but the quick read throughs are as follows... Revenue beat Wall St expectations and was at the high end of guidance SSG (bikes+baseball) did not beat Wall St expectations and was a laggard Margin progress did not show up with EBITDA...

5/7/2026 1:11pm Woah. Interesting (but likely needed) response. I wonder if it moves the needle for them. I feel inventory (having it) is their real weapon right now, not pricing.

5/6/2026 5:11pm Soon enough there will be full "ECU" swaps for the commercial ebike motors. There have already been some for a few of the Bafang offerings. No locks and motor controllers that are able to handle much higher amps. Plug n play 3000w that just looks like a regular bike. 3000w will likely shred the gears...but someone will determine that replacing a certain bearing or certain gear and it will handle 2750w or some other number well above what it was sold at. https://endless-sphere.com/sphere/ 1.6 million posts of ev enthusiasts that have already cracked open most ebike things on the market...

5/6/2026 3:27pm You guys are both right, but I'd argue the incentives aren't exactly symmetrical here. Frankly, I don't know why any motor manufacturer has to put a ton of effort into making their firmware "uncrackable" this side of government regulations. While I don't think they'll leave the door open, I don't see them spending a ton of time (or tokens) doing...

5/5/2026 6:32am A bit of an aside, but I think it is worth pointing out how fragile these software-based “locks” may turn out to be. Yes, the Avinox motor may be relatively easy to unlock today by using a VPN to New Zealand, but that loophole probably gets closed sooner rather than later. Longer term, I suspect the entire hardware package becomes...

5/4/2026 10:10am Hey John, TEAM ROBOT here. I'm curious about the new Tazer having the option for 29" or 27.5" wheels, and I'm especially curious to ask you because you've been so involved with the DH team as a mechanic and manager. And I'm asking this question as a tall person who has loved 29" rear wheels. I was surprised to see the new Tazer with the option for either rear wheel size, because ebikes are often turning into winch and plummet-only bikes, and for pure descending performance, companies and teams seem to be gravitating towards MX wheels. For instance, the Intense...

5/4/2026 9:39am I'll ask the obvious question; did Intense consider going Avinox on this project? What ultimately lead to Bosch for this bike? What are Intense's thoughts regarding the "power wars" that seem to be taking place all of a sudden due to the Avinox/DJI drive system? ...oh, and how do I get one to test?
The bike looks absolutely phenomenal.

5/4/2026 7:07am Thank you all for the interest in our bikes and in our distribution / sales model. To give you a bit of context, we’re currently a team of 9 people at RAAW, based in Germany, and we ship worldwide directly from here. The US has actually grown into our biggest market after Germany, which is pretty wild considering that every RAAW in the US has been shipped individually from Germany. Our goal is, of course, to make the ordering process and ownership experience as easy as possible. Having stock in the US would be ideal, but that comes with a...

4/29/2026 5:56am Cheers for making this thread. I think it’s going to get quite old man shouts at clouds, but there we go. I come at this from a slightly different angle, I’m an elected local councillor. As a result I’ve managed to have meetings with a few of the land owners and managers at my local. It’s a complicated picture, 3 public owners, a few private and 2 main land managers who have different goals and incentives. It’s an intensively used bit of land, 2 million people live within 30km of it in a very nature deprived part of a very...

4/28/2026 4:46pm Fresh podcast went up yesterday! We chatted with Jason Richardson, ex-pro BMX racer who has been a sports p sychologists the past 10+ years working with a lot of top cycling athletes. We actually recorded this a month ago, so I'm excited to listen to it again as we covered so many interesting topics about how to change your mindset and set yourself up to produce the outcome you're looking for—whether that is in a racing environment or just life in general. Enjoy!

4/28/2026 9:19am Why this thread exists The Bikeconomics megathread keeps getting derailed by DJI/Avinox/Amflow chatter so I'm spinning it off. Goal here is one place to talk about the DJI ecosystem, where it's headed, and what it means for the rest of the industry. Business, technology, regulatory, and the inevitable trail access tangents are all fair game. Try and keep the broader...

4/27/2026 12:55pm Any thoughts on creating a new thread with to sole focus being DJI/Avinox/Amflow + Future (which can be technology and business)? I know a number of you subscribe to this looking for a broader range of things to be talked about. I'm happy to start one if you guys want.

4/27/2026 10:06am I'll just say this (for now); off the record I've heard from many sources both Bosch and DJI are exploring gear box alternatives. DJI (Avinox) all but said it on the record. If I were a betting man I'd bet Sea Otter 2027 is focused around this one topic.

4/24/2026 12:55pm DJI just announced the FC200, a transport drone that can lift 600kg when working in tandem (4 drones). https://x.com/XH_Lee23/status/2047532188615454987?s=20 I'm posting this because it shows how close to the edge DJI is willing to go. From what I know, this product doesn't come close to passing FAA regs, but they don't care since it's a China-only product for (at least)...

4/23/2026 5:10am I got ~30 minutes each with Avinox and Bosch and am still figuring out what to do with the content (podcast or writing). Unsurprisingly, Bosch is a bit "disappointed" (I'm paraphrasing) in the direction Avinox is pushing the industry. They leaned heavily into trail access and stewardship, and suggested the current crop of high-output motors doesn't jive with the effort...
