10/21/2025 4:17pm I'm locking this thread for a day or two. Not trying to be rude, I'd actually love to jump in myself, but we've gone way off the rails. None of this ties back to the bike or outdoor industry directly. If you want to continue the AI discussion, please start a new thread, take it to X/Twitter, or head over to LinkedIn. Those platforms are built for this kind of speculation (and overflowing with this sort of banter). I want to keep this space focused on industry-specific topics. Nothing personal,I genuinely enjoy these conversations, this is just a "thread hygiene"...

10/11/2025 3:44am My understanding is that other than Whistler, no traditional North American ski hill venue was really making money on a bike park directly. At plenty of resorts that aren't quite at Whistler level the real money is in real estate development (I'm not even convinced a bunch of these are profitable as ski resorts), and a bike park can lean into the whole "four season" marketing pitch to sell more condos and timeshares. I hope that bespoke options like Coast Gravity Park and other bike-only products like Highland are the exception and they make enough to operate as-is.

10/11/2025 3:42am Yes, I hate Vail resorts too, but you've touched on about 1000 different topics with the pricing of the epic pass, and I think this is a case of prices needing to rise to match market demand. For instance, Spomer posted this excellent video journalism on the Epic Pass in March of this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bfD4NiiMfo&t=410s The cost of the epic pass has been way, away, way too low for years, which led to an absolute stampede on local resorts by out-of-towners during Covid whenever snow was good (or even okay). The Covid ski years were terrible in terms of traffic...

9/27/2025 4:23am I recently got the new Dissector v2 (MaxTerra EXO 2.4WT) aka baby Assegai and it is exactly something I always dreamt of for a short travel trail bike (140/130). I use my small bike for XC type riding in the rockies. Conditions are usually very dry, loose dirt and loose rock on top of hardpack. The side knobs are wide yet not too tall. This makes them very stable and gives you that DHF level locked in feeling during hard cornering. Lack of side knob stability was my main complaint with Forekaster v2 and this solves that. The center tread...

9/27/2025 4:22am Awesome, glad to hear you're digging it! This was the tire I mentioned a few pages back when we were discussing fast-rolling trail treads. I've been using it as a front tire on my 130/140 Stumpjumper for several months now, but for the launch at Whistler I mounted it front and rear on the Stumpy Evo. I was really impressed with it across the board. Between Whistler and a trip to Colorado right after, I put 180 miles, 25,000 feet of climbing and 40,000 feet of descending on them. Using the MaxxGrip/DD casing. The rear is about smoked, but I'm...

9/26/2025 3:12pm Regarding Radial casing tires... TLDR version: 1. I highly recommend you do BOTH tires Radial and not try to start with just one Radial tire and one conventional tire. 2. Depending on the casing you're coming from, it will take a number of rides (5-10?) for your brain/body to fully get used to the Radial before you can take advantage of it/feel comfortable on it. Too many 1-ride reviews here and other places. More detailed version: -When I first tried Radial tires, I did front only, trail casing with a Conti DH casing rear tire. It was too unbalanced, and...

9/26/2025 6:38am Yes, but it involves using a funnel on the lever side. I essentially bleed maven's like you'd bleed a car. I put the funnel in the lever side and fill it, I think put a syringe on the bleeding edge port 1/3 full. I put one hand on the bleeding edge port wing nut and another hand on the lever blade. I pump the brake lever 3-5 times and then hold it tight. While holding the lever I loosen the bleeding edge wing nut, allow the master to push fluid into the syringe and then close the bleeding edge port...

9/25/2025 6:43pm Because this forum thread opened on October 3, 2023, Spomer, Brines, and myself are planning to record a podcast recapping the last 24 months in the bike industry and looking forward to what's coming in the next few years. Two requests from the rest of you in the peanut gallery: 1. Let us know what questions you want to hear discussed by Spomer, Brines, and myself on the "Will more companies be shutting down in the next 12-24 months?" podcast. 2. Take a look at "THE LIST" I've included below and let me know what comments, corrections, or additional info...

9/25/2025 11:49am It's not uncommon for the summit of Whiteface to be 10-15°F cooler than the base. The race course starts well under half the way up the mountain, so it shouldn't be affected too much, but it means there might be some cool shots with frost or dustings of snow at the top, and fall foliage at the bottom.

9/25/2025 11:48am Just came across this article, local environmental group is pissed that Whiteface didn't get permits approved by DEC for the world cup track. Goes to show how tough it can be to build trails in the area, working in the Adirondacks is highly regulated. https://www.adirondackexplorer.org/community-news/government/orda-viola…

9/22/2025 3:49am This has been my experience as well. Just stay on top of chain wear and you're golden. The drivetrain on this bike https://www.vitalmtb.com/community/ARonBurgundy,30923/setup,41567 is still in operation today and it was lightly used when I built the bike in 2020. I did retire the cranks out of caution as I wore through a few layers of carbon on the arms.

9/22/2025 3:49am X01 Eagle is the bees knees. I ran the same chainring (gx aluminium), cassette (the old 10-50t),shifter and derailleur for 4 and a half seasons on my old bike with only a new X01 chain about every year. The derailleur is still being used on one of the bikes by a friend who bought it off of me. I ran the last chain for 2 seasons (and I started waxing the chain in the same time frame) and just recently gave it to another friend to use it some more as I only measured 0,35 % wear rate on it...

9/22/2025 3:49am There’s TONS of issues with transmission 90/70. I see lots of posts on other media (Facebook Reddit pinkbike etc) about shift quality skipping. Getting stuck in gear etc. I’ve had the best luck with xo about 2 years and I haven’t touched it. Just replaced a chain and cassette when it wore out.

9/22/2025 3:48am Technology is not a replacement for bike maintenance. You simply have to tear your bike down once a year if you're riding a good amount and make sure you touch everything. Too many mountain bikers are in the ride it until it breaks or there is a problem mindset.

9/15/2025 2:46pm Local shop told me that a replacement for the Yeti SB160E is launching next week (presumably Tuesday, the unofficial launch day of new things). It might use the MT-something name. Should be 160 or 170 travel. Full power Bosch motor. Very expensive, as expected. Dentists rejoice!
