I agree. You get the benefits of lower progression which will work well in less demanding scenarios and a relatively simple but likely very effective ramp-up in spring rate that spreads the bottom-out progression over a wider and more controlled region of travel vs simply reducing volume vs tokens. This shock could work very well for a lot of riders, and if not it's a std size so you can use any shock you like, and if you want more progression it's pretty likely Cascade will make a Link for it like they did the Evo.

My buddy runs his shock at like 35% sag. He HAS to be bottoming out that thing so hard, so often. I think a lot of folks either a) don’t mind the feeling of bottoming out constantly or b) don’t mind riding a harsh over-sprung shock. I’ll tell you that the people involved in making this bike are looking to make bikes that feel good to ride and perform well. The problem with solving the problem on the damper end is that different rider spring rates require different tunes, and that just doesn’t work for the majority of riders. Sure...

I’m gonna go against the grain of most of you. I actually think the wireless only is a smart move. (Presuming they are releasing an alloy model that can run mechanical drivetrains). Having an already premium carbon bike that can only run wireless makes it seem a little “more premium.” People that drive Rivians and Teslas to the trail head will love that their bike is exclusively wireless. While the people that drive 20 year old lifted Tacomas will get the option of the alloy version. I’m sure specialized has done their homework and they know that the amount of...

Yes, and I'm one that believes we always need bikes like this Stumpy, the Fuel EX, and other "Tacoma/Camry" bikes for riders who want to simply get on their bike and have it ride well. My point was that it's underwhelming considering all the hype that was built around it. It's still a nice refresh over the old Stumpy and I hope to see how it rides at some point!

Isn't that kind of the point of the Stumpjumper though? It's the Toyota Camry (or maybe more appropriately the Tacoma) of mountain bikes. An easy to ride and live with bike that appeals to the fat part of the bell curve.

Looks like they're adopting a polymer ring that fits between the spring and collar, similar to what Push does? Hopefully that ring will fit on existing shocks, mine sometimes develops a creak from that interface after particularly muddy rides. Small and low cost detail that I think all coil shocks would benefit from.

I don't know why brands do this--it just hurts their customers using the internet to search for tire info, reviews or purchasing--and also confuses retailers who aren't 100% in the know (most). This new tire shares basically zero in common with the OG High Roller or the 2 other than 'stout, tall, straight-ish' side knobs. Maybe they're re-using the name so that people don't tease them for releasing yet another tire (name). Using the same name (especially for a TOTALLY redesigned product) just causes confusion. And like we see so many times with reviews or peoples opinions "Yea that Butcher...

Not sure if this is the right place to share but here's a couple thoughts/rumors on random bike stuff after attending the Sedona bike fest 1. All the guys that brought their DJ and bmx bikes lost to a guy that was on a demo yeti sb135 for the bunny hop contest. It's the rider, not the bike. 2. Always wondered what gearbox bikes felt when you tried to shift underload - it doesn't shift! I was climbing a not very steep road to get back to the venue on a (demo)Zerode and was stuck in gear 4 all the...

Have both in the garage right now. I’d say the maven has slightly more breakaway force, but requires significantly less force at the bite point for good power up until they lock the wheel quite easily.

Just going to give my thoughts on the Maven lever hand fatigue topic. I am going off topic to rant on about Hope brakes but this will make sense if you make it to the end. For a start I have never used the Maven brakes. I have always loved and championed Code RSC brakes and never had an issue with them, until I tried a set of Hope Tech 4 V4 brakes. I have always liked Hope parts but previous Hope brakes have always been disappointing. I put a pair of V4’s onto my Nomad when I built it...

Thanks friend. I guess it was time to make an account after all, haha. To clarify a few things: - Yes, the title is abrasive, but I feel that I’ve justified that opinion in (too much) detail throughout the video. I’m not on YouTube to make money, considering I make less than C$4 RPM after tax. I also never pushed my resume/background in my video. - After I connected the rear brake, I cycled the pistons to probably 50% of what was recommended in the manual to ensure they were moving smoothly, which they were. I noticed minimal difference between...

The notion that it’s ok for MTB brakes to require high input forces because F1 does is pretty ridiculous.

The way he tested these is how 90% of consumers will use them. Grab bike from LBS or online shipping box... go ride without even as much as checking bolts. Most people aren't very mechanically inclined or don't have time/interest to think about this stuff. The question I have is will they eventually "break in" after a handful of hard rides even if the setup process was inevitably skipped (assuming that's the actual issue at hand).

He's not just some random YouTuber. He's a damn good rider and an engineer who's worked in the industry. I don't buy the double rotor thing as being responsible for the lever force. Sounds to me like that's to get all 4 pistons advanced evenly and to condition the piston seals. Hayes told me to do something similar with the pad spacer (insert spacer after installing pads, pull and hold lever for 15+ sec). Having done and not done this, it didn't change the lever force, just the brake power. Unevenly advancing pistons reduces power. The stiff lever pull design...
