9/22/2025 6:22am Damn, I haven't heard that yet. I hope those reports are overblown. I might have to buy another X01 setup to stash for future use. My current one has been great.

9/22/2025 6:21am The bike park destroys your derailleurs in 3-4 trips? I get years and thousands of miles out of rear derailleurs that are usually still going strong when a crash or an errant stick takes them out. Have you heard of maintenance?

9/22/2025 6:21am “…can we stop complaining about wireless shifting” There are other sites where you can whine and moan all you want. 😉

9/22/2025 6:20am Gotta love people who write an essay about wireless shifting who then tell everyone else to stop talking about wireless shifting.

9/22/2025 6:20am This has been my experience as well. Just stay on top of chain wear and you're golden. The drivetrain on this bike https://www.vitalmtb.com/community/ARonBurgundy,30923/setup,41567 is still in operation today and it was lightly used when I built the bike in 2020. I did retire the cranks out of caution as I wore through a few layers of carbon on the arms.

9/22/2025 6:20am X01 Eagle is the bees knees. I ran the same chainring (gx aluminium), cassette (the old 10-50t),shifter and derailleur for 4 and a half seasons on my old bike with only a new X01 chain about every year. The derailleur is still being used on one of the bikes by a friend who bought it off of me. I ran the last chain for 2 seasons (and I started waxing the chain in the same time frame) and just recently gave it to another friend to use it some more as I only measured 0,35 % wear rate on it...

9/22/2025 6:19am There’s TONS of issues with transmission 90/70. I see lots of posts on other media (Facebook Reddit pinkbike etc) about shift quality skipping. Getting stuck in gear etc. I’ve had the best luck with xo about 2 years and I haven’t touched it. Just replaced a chain and cassette when it wore out.

9/22/2025 6:19am I haven't seen one (that is replaced st least once a year) in probably the last 20 years. 2005 was the first year I had a bike with full length cable outers and it was a game changer.

9/22/2025 6:18am Technology is not a replacement for bike maintenance. You simply have to tear your bike down once a year if you're riding a good amount and make sure you touch everything. Too many mountain bikers are in the ride it until it breaks or there is a problem mindset.

9/18/2025 9:07am Unless you bend over and pull yourself far over the bars, use a setforward seatpost, etc. etc., using a longer reach bike is exactly the issue we are talking about balance. No, it will not move the balance forward, it will make the front/back balance even worse. You're not meaningfully moving the weight away from the rear if you keep the chainstay the same, but you are moving the front further away. Imbalance 101. It actually makes more sense to go with a smaller size to improve the balance.

9/18/2025 9:05am I heard they're jumping to mineral oil. Been contemplating scooping up a few sets of the current model.

9/18/2025 9:01am Hayes Dominions are on the market for a while now nd after trying some other brakes they are the one I keep coming back to. I wonder if anyone heard anything about Hayes jumping on the Mineral Oil trend as well? Or maybe a new version with minor updates like tool free bitepoint adjustment…

9/17/2025 8:20am Apple sells a $2,000 iPhone and a $600 iPhone and their premium image is just fine. I'm really not seeing the brand erosion you're talking about with Ibis. What I am seeing is tons of riders, new and old on Rimpos and utterly stoked about them. Every single weekend I'll end up riding the lift with someone on a Ripmo. 1B people have iPhones, so access to the product alone doesn't erode the brand. We cannot ignore the god awful rebrand Ibis did recently, taking their iconic head badge and making it look like a sticker from Costco. The new...

9/17/2025 8:17am When did Ibis decide that it was the right time to be a "yeti" premium-priced bike company? Checking their new XTR and XT builds on Ripmo, 10K or 8.3K is definitely above anything I would consider a good price for Ibis. I would be really curious to know how they are doing.

9/15/2025 12:04pm Local shop told me that a replacement for the Yeti SB160E is launching next week (presumably Tuesday, the unofficial launch day of new things). It might use the MT-something name. Should be 160 or 170 travel. Full power Bosch motor. Very expensive, as expected. Dentists rejoice!
