amaranth Liked a reply to forum topic Wireless brakes - is this even slightly a good idea?

While it is true non of our existing brakes have failsafe, you can tell almost instantly if something has gone wrong. Barring a catastrophic failure, even with a (slowly) leaking brake you at least have access to some braking power. If the wireless one goes without a failsafe, there's potentially many situations where you have 0 brake power, which may lead to a much higher consequence.

I am informed by my motocross background more than my MTB experience. I've noted in another thread that I always felt like the bicycle was still very oriented toward the XC credo: low bars, tall seat, wear spandex and pedal hard! Even my slack enduro bike has a much lower handlebar position than my MX bike, compared to where my...

Here's a good question for the tire nerds: I am not a good test rider. I can't easily tell the difference between 25 and 29 psi, for instance. But even I noticed last month, when I rode a shuttle ride at a high elevation, that my tires were hard. It was cold and the elevation was as much as 7,500...

I ride MX and MTB and I have no trouble switching between brake modes. In fact, if I go moto-style on the bicycle, the way they do it in EU, Australia and the like, it messes me up.

You guys are going to think I'm full of shit, but these are completely true: -I used to work at Suzuki headquarters. Ricky Carmichael gave me the " 'sup" head nod when he came to visit once, because he recognized me from a previous media event. -The drummer for No Doubt is my cousin. He introduced me to Gwen Stefani...

Falcon Added a reply to what kind of brake pads to use front vs back

10/31/2023 10:03am
It's never wrong to set up your bike the way you want it. I'd do some testing, though, to see if your suspicions are correct - see if you really do like it better your way. If not, flip the pads back around. right now, I'm running sintered in front and organic in back. I'm sure someone would say that's...

The next day was a ride/travel day. We were just worked from two days of intense riding, but managed to bust out about half of Pipe Dream before loading up and getting out of town. So long, Moab! I shall return.

That night we had some of the best Mexican food I've ever had! (Or maybe I was just really, really hungry...) Either way, I wholeheartedly recommend El Tapatio, on the east side of the main drag at about 100 South.

Porcupine is next: Upper Porcupine Singletrack, Lower Porcupine, and Porcupine Rim. Upper is where the infamous Notch/Snotch obstacles are. I'm proud to report I rode the Snotch, albeit a little clunky. I'll have to upload some GoPro videos for that one.

The next section is Hazzard County. Scrubbier brush and fewer trees. You end at Kokopelli, which is a fast Jeep road down to the next section of trail.

Down Burro Pass and into the aspen groves. We saw a small clutch of deer making their way across the path, but I didn't get any shots. One of them was hiding just off the trail and got startled when I came upon her. She bounded off the trail and into the underbrush before I even saw her.

We continued on to Moab that afternoon and got ready for the main event: The Whole Enchilada! Friday morning we rose early and hi-tailed it over to the 7:30 shuttle. On the mountain by about 8:15, and at the top of Burro Pass by shortly after 9:00. (I am not a speedy climber!)

I thought you guys might like to see some pictures from my recent Utah trip with my best friend. We start with the Thunder Mountain trail near Panguitch:

I come from the MX side, and I'm still amazed you can buy a bicycle in adult sizes S-XL. If you went down to the local Yamaha dealer and wanted to buy my motorcycle, it comes in YZ250 size. MX riders have to adjust their handlebars and get on with it.
