Falcon Started a new thread Felt "Bixby" Beach Cruiser -$100
11/7/2024 10:03am Hey guys, I'm looking to make room in the garage. Somebody in SoCal (Temecula-Murrieta-Menifee area) come take this for $100! My mom bought this bike a few years back, then decided she was too old to ride bikes anymore, so she gave it to my wife. Wife would rather put hot sauce on her eyelids than exercise, so she's out...

Falcon Added a reply to New to mountain biking
10/30/2024 1:57pm Just for the sake of info, I want to point out that Canyon does have a US demo center in Carlsbad, CA. I don't know if it's actually a distribution warehouse, though. They have also just teamed with REI for service support: https://www.vitalmtb.com/community/iceman2058/blog/10/30/2024/entry/126…
Falcon Added a reply to Stiffness versus Compliance
10/17/2024 10:14am The engineers know far more than I do, so I'll take their word that the compliance is in the right ballpark. I'm not much of a test rider anyway; the only flex I can ever feel is when I try to push a Harley-Davidson into a parking spot and the steel handlebars flex about an inch and a half. 😅...
Falcon Added a reply to Market is crashing … so how many new bikes you got?
10/1/2024 10:07am I haven't purchased yet, but I have a whole spreadsheet of enduro bikes all lined up. Going to get the best one. Still deciding between a Strive, a Tracer Expert, or a Capra. Maybe a Meta with Ohlins.... Hmmmm...
Falcon Added a reply to Your Thoughts on the Cost of a New Mountain Bike?
9/26/2024 11:59am I don't think I'm a better rider than I actually am; I know I'm a better rider than I actually am. Wait...🤔
Falcon Added a reply to Mxer has been humbled
9/4/2024 11:54am Welcome to the fold. I used to consider MTB just a cross training tool for my MX racing as well, but now it's another passion. You may feel the same before too long!
Falcon Added a reply to Tuned Mass Dampers and Mountain Bikes
8/30/2024 1:29pm All the math involved is way over my head, but it sure seems like a lot of snake oil and extra weight for no reason. Maybe those who have ridden a bike with one can correct me... What's the problem we're trying to solve here? Are the units designed to tune out vibration, or to allow the tires to touch...
Falcon Added a reply to Warranty Experiences
8/19/2024 4:22pm I had a GREAT experience with Commencal and SRAM. I have a 2017 Meta V4.2 which came with Guide R brakes. After just over a year of ownership, the brakes developed that same sticky condition that they all did, wherein the levers did not return to full open after use and became sloppy. I called Commencal to ask if there...

8/13/2024 11:14am I bit the bullet and will give my opinion on the Albert this weekend when I have time to ride… and if I receive it in time.

Falcon Added a reply to Poll: When do you replace tires?
8/13/2024 11:12am When I notice the grip has gone away. I'm not very sensitive to that, so I'm like the poster above; I measure my tires in years, not DH runs.

8/12/2024 3:29pm Those new Schwalbe radials look intriguing. I'm not sure how much is marketing and how much is actually "so revolutionary you'll want to go burn down the other tire companies' headquarters for being so conceited as to keep selling their crappy swill," though. I do remember when radial tires made a debut in Sportbike racing many years ago; everyone quickly...
Falcon Added a reply to Would You Be in Favor of a Universal Seatpost Diameter Standard?
8/7/2024 11:23am Yes to a standard seatpost diameter, as long as it's not another new standard.
Falcon Added a reply to Poll: Electric shifting vs mechanical shifting
7/31/2024 1:32pm I don't hate electronic shifting, but I'm wondering what the actual benefits are. You save weight on a cable but add it back with a battery. You get precise shifting, but said battery could run out and leave you stuck in the wrong gear. You get an easier maintenance schedule (just charge it and go,) but it's more regularly-occurring. I'd...
jeff.brines Liked a reply to forum topic Poll: Electric shifting vs mechanical shifting
7/31/2024 1:26pm Thanks to those who have chimed in and/or participated in the poll so far! What this comes down for me is something I can answer in a few simple questions. Does the technology improve the bike riding experience? If so, how much? With respect to electronic shifting, I don't see it. Its a nice to have, its sexy, it shifts well, but I don't find my on bike experience to be any better than a good mechanical system and its more expensive. I've had numerous rides when I had it where I had the battery crap out (or I left...

Falcon Added a reply to Valentin Anouilh Jumps the Tour de France Peloton - AGAIN
7/11/2024 3:33pm ^The peloton is definitely stoked. I saw a video of it, and you even hear a few "Yew!" sounds coming from the competitors.
Falcon Added a reply to Tubeless help needed
7/10/2024 9:53am Those tires must not be "tubeless ready." There are still some that aren't compatible with sealant. Someone else can probably chime in about whether the sealant will eventually clog those holes; I don't know.

6/26/2024 8:37am The benefits of higher bars were discussed on this thread a while back, especially for taller riders. https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/general-cockpitcontact-point-discus… I'm only 6'0" but running 82mm riser bars on my enduro bike.
