GO-RIDE Liked a comment about Feature Orbea's Rallon RS - An E-Bike That's Not for E-Bikers
1/28/2026 1:10pm I hear that a lot at our bike shops in the SLC, UT area. However, I know a lot of gravity oriented riders that use their eBikes for more out of season training laps and still ride their Amish bikes for racing and park days. I have access to a few nice eBikes, but still put way more miles in on my Amish bikes.

Falcon Added a reply to 32" -20" MegaMullet Penny Farthing
1/27/2026 11:35am You'd have to mod it pretty aggressively, I'm sure. With all the standard geo, that big a wheel size differential would make it a wheelie/loop-out machine. Do you guys remember those old-school "layback" BMX seatposts? You could run one of those, but rotated 180 degrees so it cheats the seat forward to get a steeper seat angle, then add a...

1/27/2026 11:28am Innnnnteresting. I recently bought another amish bike, because I worry I'll switch to ebikes and never go back. I want to pedal for a few more years before I give in and admit that I can't pedal very hard anymore. The climbs kill me. Having something like this might be a good way to stave off that eventual concession to Father Time. It would be like a regular bike ridden by my 25 year-old self. IDK if it's worth $10,000 as a stepping stone to the eventual full-ebike, though.

Falcon Added a reply to Riding along the California Coast
1/20/2026 10:41am Coastal only? Sorry, can't exactly help. However, if you are willing to come inland a little bit, I'd definitely suggest riding at Greer Ranch! Come up I-15 from San Diego, then split off on I-215 in Temecula, then Park on Scenic View Drive in Menifee, CA. The trailhead is here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Greer+Ranch+Trailhead/@33.6211888,-11… Follow that fire road up into the trail network...
Falcon Added a reply to Shimano/TRP Maven - S-tier braking (Shaven/Traven)
1/7/2026 10:28am I think I'm going to need a word index for the new lexicon this thread is generating. Shigura, Shmaven, Traven, Sragura, Mavura, ...MavTurp? 🤩 I guess we're going with "lever" + "caliper" as the formula for the new words? Holy crap, I just realized we may have a bunch of 200mm and 203mm rotor factors to consider. Will Shmavengalf be...
Falcon Added a reply to 2025: Things you loved this year
12/24/2025 10:06am 1) New Bike Day! These are awesome any year, but I don't buy bikes that often. (Last one was 2017.) I got a Commencal Meta V5 with Ohlins, TRP, Industry9 and Burgtec parts all over it, and it's been making me ride a lot! 2) Sedona in November. 3) New trails at Greer Ranch, near where I live. The trail...
Falcon Added a reply to One bike to do it all?
12/17/2025 3:41pm One bike: a big, heavy monster truck of an enduro bike I call the Earthmover. (XL Commencal Meta V5 Ohlins with the coil.) Here's my rationale: -I can only really afford one bike. -I want to ride Enduro and park laps. I am not skilled enough to forego any mechanical advantage that I can get. (Thus no underbiking for me.)...

12/17/2025 3:33pm I'm relatively forced into the do-it-all bike just due to cost of a FS MTB. But I've been more than happy with what you can do with a mid travel mullet bike, in the MX Jeffsy. So, finances allowing, the idea of a much more refined and lighter carbon version of such a bike would be fairly compelling from XC all day epics to bike park laps. But I don't see the do-it-all bike as a compelling narrative outside of budgetary restrictions or (a problem that is very revealing of where I live) housing space restrictions. Change my scenario tomorrow...

Falcon Added a reply to Toddler push/strider bike to pedal - help dads
12/15/2025 8:58am My kid got proficient on a Strider and then we got him a PW50 motorcycle for Christmas when he was 4. He didn't get a pedal bike until he was 5 and actually had a hard time learning how to pedal. No problems with balance at all, but the actual hard work of pushing the pedals was difficult for him...

12/3/2025 4:32pm Another rim tape suggestion: I find that when I can't get rim tape to stick (which is often, even with cleaning well, using a heat gun, etc) is to Gorilla tape the rim after it's fully cleaned, press it down to have it adhere, remove it, and then install rim tape. I've found that whatever residue is left behind by the Gorilla tape helps the rim tape stick.

Falcon Added a reply to Dumb Bike Problems
11/26/2025 11:41am This made me remember an old "dumb bike problem" from a few years ago; I was changing out my front tire and decided to use the torque wrench when putting the wheel back on. There's a a torque spec right on the Maxle that connects my wheel to the fork lugs; 9-13.5 N*M or 80-120 in-lbs. Since I use freedom...

Falcon Added a reply to Modern bike sizing (aka am I buying the wrong size bike)
11/5/2025 2:18pm ^My Meta V5 has a headset that will accept routing or not. (There are knockouts, or "doors" you can use.) The frame has the grommets and I'm using those; no headset routing for me, either!
Falcon Added a reply to Aftermarket Ebike Wiring Harness For YT Decoy
10/29/2025 11:01am I wonder if -as a last resort- you could use a wiring harness from another brand? It may be possible to find another brand's Shimano Ep801/STEPS parts and cross-reference them to your bike. I'd bet the bike brands use Shimano-supplied parts, rather than manufacturing them by themselves. EDIT: I do know a guy who rewires automobiles for law enforcement and...

10/23/2025 2:48pm It's tough but more or less, yes that's the difference. It's objectively a high speed race. And going slower is safer. You or I could cruise a motorcycle on the course and be fine. With Rampage... The danger is inherent in the environment. Just digging is kinda dangerous tbh lol. And the people gunning for a win are definitely in more danger, but it's just dangerous for anybody dropping in at all whatsoever. Or to put it another way "there isnt an objective way to make it objectively safe". The only solution would be, don't bring your bicycle up there...
