Falcon Added a reply to Modern Inverted Single Crown Forks

I loooove USD forks on motorcycles; always have. However, I feel like the benefits of the design are somewhat muffled on a single crown setup for MTB use (More clamping area, smaller axle overhang to clear ruts). There's also more weight in a USD fork, I'm assuming. There's no doubt they look trick, though! I remember a test in this...

I spent months of frustration and probably lost years off my life, trying to sort out my tubeless setup. I taped and re-taped my rims, tried all sorts of different settings on my air compressor, and swapped out the cheap cone-shaped tubeless valves several times. Could not get the tire to inflate. As it turned out, all I needed was...

I'm fine with slower shifts. I know modern drivetrains will handle more, but I'm still in the old-school mindset of interrupting my cadence a little bit and shifting one gear at a time, so as to put the least amount of stress on the whole system. I'm on an NX deraileur now. Going GX Eagle on my new bike.

Seconded. I've never done anything that approaches his feat but I have done some stupid-hard things and this stood out to me as the key part: " This wasn’t a physical effort, but a mission of mental resilience." The physical fitness is just the start, not giving up, especially when it's real easy just to roll home, or not start the next day, is what's so impressive to me.

Now, I'm not a climber, so clearly others can do far more than I can. But even doing 10,000 feet in one day sounds superhuman to me! (My single-day best is around 2200 feet, I think.) Doing that for 100 days is pure insanity.

If I force myself to do it, I can jump left foot forward and it's no big deal. Left to my preference, I'll always choose right foot forward.

When he actually retires hopefully he wants to do some DH, if anyone at RedBull is listening this would be an opportunity for some awesome content. Get Ken to come out to the Windrock national, pair him up with Aaron Gwin and have him show him how to do track walk. How the whole race day works, which lines to change and take during practice and sort of guide him through the day while filming it all and then have Ken do a zero pressure race run would be such awesome content. You'd get some crossover from both fan bases...

Falcon Added a reply to Ken Roczen on Racing Mountain Bikes

There is a lot of crossover between the sports but it would be very difficult for someone from either endeavor to jump right into the deep end of the other and be successful. Even a rider of Roczen's skill would require a few seasons, in my opinion, to find the little tenths of seconds that all add up to a...

Honestly I think fitness is the least of his worries, yes to be at that top level he wpuld have to alter his training a bit to be more sprint focused but he is still in better shape than probably 99% of the world cup guys. He is also the best at first few lap sprints than anyone in Supercross which is less than 5 minutes.

Falcon Added a reply to Spraying your bike

Gentle spray, sponge wash with car suds, rinse, then re-lube the chain. It doesn't seem to have hurt my bike in 7 years. (Avoid spraying water into the cable ports or bearings.)

Falcon Added a reply to How would you measure pedal kickback?

11/25/2024 3:09pm
Here's an angle nobody has mentioned yet: isn't pedal kickback a little bit like free acceleration? Suspension compresses = chain "tightens" = assuming no movement from the rider's foot = cassette turns forward.

Hey guys, I'm looking to make room in the garage. Somebody in SoCal (Temecula-Murrieta-Menifee area) come take this for $100! My mom bought this bike a few years back, then decided she was too old to ride bikes anymore, so she gave it to my wife. Wife would rather put hot sauce on her eyelids than exercise, so she's out...

Falcon Added a reply to Stiffness versus Compliance

10/17/2024 10:14am
The engineers know far more than I do, so I'll take their word that the compliance is in the right ballpark. I'm not much of a test rider anyway; the only flex I can ever feel is when I try to push a Harley-Davidson into a parking spot and the steel handlebars flex about an inch and a half. 😅...

Welcome to the fold. I used to consider MTB just a cross training tool for my MX racing as well, but now it's another passion. You may feel the same before too long!
