Falcon Added a reply to Catastrophic Full-Face Helmet Failure!
6/19/2023 11:55am Who knows? Perhaps your helmet did its job and self-destructed to absorb the energy of the crash. You have a bloody lip and missing teeth instead of a broken jaw and facial reconstruction surgery. Heal up quick!

Falcon Added a reply to Beginner needs help with a bike
6/12/2023 11:42am Can't see your pictures, but start with 30 PSI in the tires and an equivalent psi to your body weight in pounds in the shock. That will put you in the right ballpark. The bike should sag 30% into the travel or so with you aboard. Same with the forks.
Falcon Added a reply to Crank length/bb height . Is shorter/lower the future?
5/15/2023 12:00pm I'm sure there are lots and lots of variables when we're talking about bicycle cranks. However, a longer lever with the same force applied to the end of it produces more torque, period. People have been failing to disprove that since Archimedes' time. Proper pedaling form, athletic output and foot placement preferences aside, even a slightly longer crank would produce...

5/15/2023 11:53am Track racers are still putting out 1800+ watts with 165mm cranks, where as before they were running 177mm cranks or longer. You aren't losing any power, that myth has been dispelled long ago. There is much more involved in producing power on a bike than just the length of the lever arm. I think the foot stance length is more interesting for descending. Gwin talks about going between 175mm -> 165mm on the DH bike based on how far apart he wants his feet.

Falcon Added a reply to Crank length/bb height . Is shorter/lower the future?
5/8/2023 11:54am I want longer cranks. I love the idea of a low BB, but you get more leverage on the chain with longer cranks, period. I can't afford to lose any pedal power, as I am a weakling. What would be really cool is some kind of telescoping crank that gets shorter at the bottom of the rotation so it clears...
Falcon Added a reply to Hey Mountainbike - Community and hello from Austria, Are there some german speaking mountain-bikers in this forum?
5/2/2023 10:48am Ich spreche sehr klein Deutsch. In fact, that's almost all of it. However, it looks like the page at your link can be translated into English, so I'll check it out when I get home. (EDIT: For those wanting to help the OP and answer his questionnaire, use Google Chrome and translate into English.)
Falcon Added a comment about feature Automatic and Pedal-Free eMTB Shifting - Shimano's E-specific XT Di2 Drivetrain Deep Dive
4/14/2023 1:15pm I don't truly care in the case of e-bikes, but I don't like the idea that Shimano is intentionally disabling the motors if you try to modify them for more power. It's part of a disturbing trend that manufacturers everywhere are starting to adopt: one in which I don't actually own the thing I bought and paid for.

4/3/2023 2:25pm Crankbrothers Stamp 1 pedals are around $50. You'll get far fewer flats with tubeless than with tubes. The sealant fixes them as they occur and you barely even lose air pressure. I keep some extra on hand to top off every 6 months or so, and I also change it out when I swap tires.

4/3/2023 2:15pm What is so bad about adult entertainment that UCI cannot be assosiated with it (especially just by having a contestant having a website that has porn as a sponsor). Its not like porn is illegal or evil or is that how its seen in the US? Where I live it is very normal for adults to consume porn so i dont really get it. Its not like he is sponsored by a website promoting violence, drug abuse or terrorism etc. Seems very narrow minded and fundamentalistic to me.

3/24/2023 2:20pm Well, that's one solution. I'm a total lightweight though; I'd probably end up crashing a lot more. Plus, then the trailbuilders would have to clean up my broken glass after they carried my passed-out ass back to the truck, and I don't want that.

Falcon Started a new thread Water bottle with a straw/hose
3/19/2023 8:50pm Does anyone make a water bottle with a tube or hose at the top? I'm trying to avoid always having to bring a hydration pack when I wear my TLD Stage helmet. The thing can fit a beer bottle through the mouth vent, but not a water bottle. The tube doesn't have to be very long - probably only three...
