10/28/2025 2:41pm Well there you have it. New business idea: superboost wheel rental. No competition. Charge the full price of the wheel as rental price fee. Rent it out twice you made money lol…

10/28/2025 2:39pm I'll add to the dumpster fire: In 2022 a friend of mine broke his super boost rear wheel just days before our bike trip to Moab. He was unable to find any replacement in a big city like Toronto. Not even the shops in Moab had one. After much research. he managed to find a bike shop several hours out of the way from Moab that had one collecting dust. If this was a "normal" 148 wheel then he could've used any one of our spare wheels. It's just silly. Also never heard of renting wheels in North America.

10/28/2025 2:38pm I was also so thrown off by the comment that a shop would rent a wheel... that sounds like an easy way to go bankrupt if you ask me. I wouldn't want to rent myself a wheel. My wife's mom wants to pass on her like-new, lady-riden, 2023 Devinci Troy, which by all means is a sick bike. What keeps me up at night is that it has superboost and doesn't vibe with all our 148 bikes.

10/28/2025 2:38pm This is crazy. Who do you know that has spare 157 wheels laying around? Shops don’t rent wheels. They barely rent bikes anymore.

10/28/2025 2:37pm I thought it was very brave of Ebruner to be vulnerable and share how many bikes he and his wife have. It can be tough to come clean. We’re all active or recovering bikes addicts here, and this is supposed to be a supportive community for recovery. Or enabling rationalizations and fostering codependency, if that’s what you’re looking for. Both, really. JUDGEMENT FREE SPACE

10/28/2025 2:35pm Not here to self-promote but since Butch already tried re-posting from my IG I hope this is okay. Rumors only for now.

10/28/2025 2:34pm Well the bad news is that I don't know what to tell you, and the good news is that I have nothing to prove, nor nothing to gain for convincing you. I have a lot of mountain bikes and so does my wife, 6 between us. Everyone of our bikes has sram brakes with metallic pads, 200mm hs2 rotors and the same sram drivetrains and sram dt350 hubs on every wheelset save one. There are two extra floater wheelsets between all of the bikes. I think it may actually be more important for me to be on the right tires...

10/28/2025 12:52pm They didn't dimension the other lip... it could be 6.5 mm wide. But not making dumb machine shop assumptions, it's approximately 36.5 mm wide on account of that 3.5 mm dimension actually being at a slight angle. I took the profile and traced it on my computer really quick. Going off the 30 mm dimension being correct, all the other dimensions are quite close to their callout. That's some next level rounding or just straight up making it up.

10/28/2025 12:36pm I have fought off having superboost rear wheels in my fleet for many years. My wife fell in love with a pivot recently and got herself one. It has ruined the zen status of all wheels/hubs fitting all bikes in my garage. It is as bad, if not worse then the dystopian axle future I imagined that had me avoiding pivot bikes for nearly a decade now. superboost sucks... after having a superboost bike forced on me, I can safely say, I will never own a superboost bike.

10/28/2025 12:35pm I don't even like playing the "Who has a 148 rear wheel I can borrow [with my preferred freehub interface and/or a cassette of similar size and # of speeds that's compatible with my chain]?" game. I don't think I would like the 157mm SuperBoost version of that game.

10/28/2025 12:33pm Looks like a Ryde Edge series rim. Weird they put a photo with a mangled nipple front n center: I realize that's a bit obsessive, but as a wheel builder this matters.
