I mean that they require more finger power to deliver the same stopping power. To compare it to other brakes, the Advocate has by far the shortest free stroke I have tested, and also the overall stiffest feel to the system (meaning that there is hardly any movement of the lever when you squeeze it past the bite point, the hoses are super stiff and will not allow for any kind of lever sponginess). They have good initial bite and are easy to modulate. When you really need get braking heavily, I would put their power above the Code RSC...

both (forbidden edruid, velduro rogue) were built up the week before the test event. the power was there, don’t get me wrong, but the force needed to pull them was so much more than the intends, especially at the beginning of the stroke. hence the comparison with XTs to codes.

The power on Mavens is incredible, i’ve never ridden a brake with so much power available. That said, they’re coming off my DH bike because mine refuse to be consistent for more than half a day. They’ve been worked on by myself and two different shops. They seem plagued by wandering bite points and pump up regardless of piston massages or hocus pocus bleeding rituals. Nothing kills your flow on trail like a lack of confidence in your brakes. Hopefully (pun intended) my new GR4’s will be better. They seem to have improved my main complaint from the V4.

Maybe you got unlucky with the test bike brakes you tried? When correctly set up, mavens feel dramatically more powerful than 4 pot XT's or Codes. IMO mavens make saints look like a cross country brake. I went down in n out slab (long steep slab) on 4 pot xt with metallic and I yarding on my front brake like...

If this happens we’ll see the full fat segment morph into 55lb full power e-bikes with motor gearboxes. Then, the SL e-bikes as we know them (42lbs with Exo tires and 400wh battery) will fade into the bushes and be replaced by 45lb DJI powered bikes with 600wh batteries. 400wh just isn’t enough to not take your analog 120-140 bike out now that they’re fashionable again.

1. Schwalbe Shredda (rear on the front) and Magic Mary (rear and/or front) radials have been awesome in the slop and then unexpected dust on my local steeps in Malvern. 2. More mates getting eebs. They enjoy it and I enjoy it. 3. Trips to Scotland - long old drive, but worth it for the natural stuff in the Cairngorms and the well built and natural stuff in the Tweed Valley. Also great to be away with mates and the main aim of biking. 4. New Levo gen 4. It's a great bike for me. 5. World Cup racing -...

I had a good day out on the XT/Maven's with redline likewater. No issues. No wandering bite. Just light level pull and absurdly strong brakes. I'll be sticking with this setup for the foreseeable future. Will be interesting to see how the long term reliability is, and how the bleed holds up.

I have also been interested in the alpine stars plasma elite shield knee pads, but they are sold out in the states at the moment. My read from looking at the alpinestars is that it’s more of a full on downhill pad, whereas the Arcon LT is more suited to enduro. I’ve test fitted the Arcon and found it didn’t...

I was struck by an odd idea today. I like the leatt 6.0 3df knee, but the 3df foam impact pad is quite thin on the sides and I’m not inspired by the protection level for a sideways hit or if the pad slides at all. I was thinking about this issue and realized I have extra d30 pads that...

Yeah that sounds like the code I used. I thought for sure they would have disabled on the slayco96 as these are already almost 40% off, but it worked Smile

Thank you for the tip. Is HOOKIT2025 the code that you used? $80 sounds like a great deal for these.

I don't have anywhere else to post this pain so I shall do so here. I've been thinking back on the year, and as time went on I really wanted a Zink Vacay more and more. But I had just purchased a YT Jeffsy and couldn't afford to invest in not only another bike but an even more expensive bike/build of course... But I was thinking to myself "why did I get the Jeffsy and not the Zink? maybe the Zink wasn't released yet so I wasn't even aware of what I was missing? how long after buying the Jeffsy...

I picked up a set of EVS slayco96 knee pads to try out. These tick a lot of boxes. CE level ii rated, super comfortable, not heavy at 680 grams for the pair, and have shin protection. They pass the ā€œdrop to your knees on concreteā€ impact test and I believe they would be very protective in a serious crash...
