4/23/2026 12:22pm Having ridden bikes from several major brands, my SC Megatower has easily been the best I’ve owned when it comes to product support, parts availability, and clear, reliable customer service. I used to make fun of people who had an SC, but after dealing with repeated warranty issues on other bikes, I get it now. The Mega is a sick bike, the VPP suspension rides great, but honestly, it’s the overall ownership experience that really sets Santa Cruz apart. I'm in the market for a shorter travel ripper, and SC is at the top of the list, even if it's...

4/23/2026 10:54am I'm confused by the linkage. DW4 usually has a solid rear triangle. Is this a DW4 linkage with a flex stay? Or is the dual chainring hiding a DW6 linkage, and this is DW6 with a flex stay? Either way, very cool. I assume there may have been collaboration with Pivot or Dave Weagle. Looking forward to hearing more about...

4/22/2026 10:39pm It’s a joke page, but they bring up a fair point. Electronic suspension has been banned in F1 for decades. Why is it allowed in mountain bike racing? Maybe, because it doesn’t have a clear competitive advantage in downhill at least. People are trying all sorts of out of the box things at the moment. I imagine Fox and rockshox...

4/22/2026 5:09pm I'm currently testing a DF hub on my Forbidden Dreadnought V2 and will report back with my longterm findings. In short though, yes it works and makes the bike feel much better and more bottomless. It does as advertised by pretty much much isolating the brake forces from drivetrain forces in all but the most extreme cases.

4/22/2026 1:04pm https://www.sram.com/en/life/stories/specialized-highgear-co-development From the outset, the core challenge was clear: transmitting full downhill sprint and impact loads through an extremely compact system. Traditional solutions such as belts or meshing gears were quickly ruled out due to inefficiency, packaging limitations, suspension constraints, and durability concerns. Chains remained the most efficient and proven option, but early analysis showed that a single chain could not withstand elite downhill loads within the desired compact gearing and envelope. That insight led to the project’s defining architectural decision: a two chain system. Two parallel chains could theoretically share the load, but ensuring equal load distribution introduced a...

4/22/2026 10:39am Another pre-season vid, this one covering the Trek-Unbroken team's off season trip to NZ and reflecting on the 2025 season. I feel like this team is going to be really really in the mix this season.

4/22/2026 10:38am Has specialized provided an explanation for why there are 2 chains hidden in the frame, rather than 1? The 4 chainrings and 2 tension idlers is a lot going on - seems like there must be a good reason?

4/22/2026 10:31am No, the Scott engineers are furious because Specialized added so many new links but didn't seal them inside the frame. They're yelling at their screen right now, "Just make it look like a pregnant whale! It's so easy!"

4/22/2026 10:33am Buying a Santa Cruz usually costs a bit more, but there are some legitimate reasons other than VPP to buy one. Kinematics / ride dynamics are well engineered regardless of linkage used SC geo is usually solid, nothing weird Build quality Ability to purchase replacement parts for many years (try buying parts for a 5 year old frame from any...

4/21/2026 4:39pm Quoting myself because I'm lame. I wanted to add a few notes to this comment from a few years ago. I've almost exclusively stayed with the Mavens in the on/off again riding I've done since posting this and they've remained fairly consistent since. I don't think much has changed with any of the above. I have since tried the Maven Base, Cura 4, and the Oak Maven levers. The Maven Bases were a disappointment. They came on an OE build I had and I had heard good things about the lever feel, which was an improvement over the Ultimates I've...

4/20/2026 6:38pm The things you're describing can mitigate chain growth that results in pedal kickback, but they are not "pedal kickback devices" in that they do not provide a consistent deadband before the drivetrain is engaged (like an ochain or sidekick hub would).

4/18/2026 7:50pm I will never understand the “it’s a whole separate sport” thing. I ride my ebike exactly like my analog bike just do more laps. Literally every other person I know with an ebike does the same and is not going out and climbing up downhill trails in boost. I see plenty of e-bikes on the lift at the bike park being ridden like analog bikes. The innovation is happening in the motor and battery because the “bike part” of the tech has plateaued. Amflow proved this by making a decent riding bike out of thin air.

4/18/2026 5:25pm Ethan I keep telling you, you gotta learn the difference between watts and watt hours. They are different things. Power is measured in watts. Watt hours describes battery energy storage. edit - Ethan edited his post so my post makes now sense now. I’m happy to see you’ve learned the difference.

4/18/2026 10:07am I see your point, but it’s apples and oranges. Cars use roads designed with cars in mind. If drivers act ignorantly they face fines, penalties, arrest. No such guardrails exist for ebikers behaving poorly. Enforcement is non existent on trails absent losing access entirely. Bikes use trail infrastructure that is frequently shared across user groups, hikers, bikers, runners, equestrians. Trail...
