I would tend to agree. I liked mine a lot! The main appeal for me is the price being a good $50-80 cheaper than most of the competitors and deep discounts easy to come by. Though for an updated one, I would love to see pads that don’t rattle, easier and more modern bleed, and more usable adjustments but not...

Love that Shimano is making their own Transmission-style derailleur mount. I look forward to standing on someone's Saint derailleur in the near future. If anyone can get their hands on Dak, Ethan, or Benoit's Scott, please stand on their new Saint derailleur for me and let me know what you think. Devil's advocate: I haven't noticed any excess chainslap or noise with the new XTR Di2 derailleur on my mid-travel bike (admittedly I haven't tried it yet on my long travel smasher), and most people who do find the new XTR derailleur too loud seem to find that the shorter...

Why 157mm? You have a current set of wheels you'd like to use I take it? I'm more disconnected from DH standards and parts as I am strictly an enduro and trail rider but just wondering what people think of 157mm nowadays? It seems like there are more and more dh bikes popping up with 148mm (Forbidden Supernought, Frameworks DH...

I can't go V10 as the XL doesn't allow for a 27.5" rear wheel! Otherwise I probably would have pulled the trigger already!

Chainstay shape, positioning (relative to the chain and drivetrain), and wall thickness will also contribute to how loud the clack is when the chain slaps.

Shimano new thicker 2.2mm rotor, the RT-750, in 200 or 220mm diameters is now officially live. Their mountain bike rotors have historically been 1.8mm thick and tapped out at 203mm (except for the cheaper RT-66 that was available in 220mm). The RT-750 is offered in the usual mounting styles—Center Lock (CL750) and 6-Bolt (6B750). Unlike Shimano’s XT or XTR rotors, it does not feature a two-piece design with Shimano’s Ice Technology. The rotors are claimed to offer all the usual benefits of going bigger and thicker 😶—more power/bite, better heat management for consistency over long runs and less chance of...

The original post feels like a prank because there is no front tire with more consistent grip than the Assegai because it was specifically designed to eliminate the dead zone between the center grip and the side knobs. Before the Assegai, the primary Maxxis DH front tires were either the DHF, DHR2, or the High Roller 2, each of which featured a large gap between the side knobs and center knobs. As others have mentioned, it's that gap that creates the "dead zone" between hooking and sliding on the DHR2 and High Roller 2, and especially on the DHF. In...

I ran the Assegai for years it was a great tire in the dry. Was really consisent and easy to lean over which is something I didn't find the Butchers did very well. It was quite wide feeling and may have benefited from a 2.4 width like the HR3 but that's splitting hairs. My only real complaint was how it...

Big fan of the high pressure hose and boot dryer overnight method. Shout out to Fred Meyer having a boot dryer for $20 that won't burn down your house.
