Yes, somebody will figure it out. The MTB business is notoriously tough. B/c thermoplastic CF can be done with robotics it’s one of the few technologies that can work in developed countries with high labor costs. The recyclability is huge bonus, they are the best tire levers I have ever used. Benefits in vibration damping and impact resistance.

O-Chain elastomers need to swapped out ~75hrs and ~150hrs for full rebuild kit, kits are pricey for what they are. I have an OG Rev 4 that still uses a paper gasket. I have stocked up on parts, but going to give Rimpact a try since I am staying with RF cranks. Sidekick is nothing by comparison, just clean and...

My Sidekick has held up to 1.5 seasons so far. I do clean and re-lube freehub periodically. O-Chain does a better job with chain feedback and the engagement is softer b/c of the elastomers, but way more intricate maintenance. When I case a jump, it’s noticeable on the Sidekick.

Just a heads up Reserve HD alloy is a CAT 4 rim, not technically DH rated. FR 541 and beefier FR 571 are CAT 5 rims. I am hard on rear wheels, poor technique, my Reserve alloys turned into pretzel in ~50 days, warranty was great. Factor in ride feel on your particular frame for carbon vs alloy rims.

my 2 cents after spending some time on the bike is that I really want to spend more time on the bike. A couple anecdotes here: I was surprised at how well it pedalled and the lack of heft that I was expecting after looking at it. After giving it back for a month I had to film on it with no time to get familiar again. First trail was a rapid North Van classic that I have ridden a bunch and I was immediately sending it. It was extremely poppy while still being planted, able to pull for all...

See, I dislike comments like this because instead of commenting on the actual merits of my microspline hatred you claim that it stems from a lack of "ability" and that I am not "worthy" of wrenching because of my opinions. At no point did I say I struggle with any of it, my argument is an will always be that the XD driver is just a fundamentally better system to deal with. Not only does it provide a better interface for a cassette to sit on, but it makes the livability of a cassette significantly easier. Instead of relying on...

I can confirm that new saint is 8spd not 7spd (because Shimano) and that it will not be launched this till next summer. It has a clutch too, and rumoured to have a "enduro" version for 12spd cassettes for riders who want silence not pedaling effciency The 2.2mm rotors everyone is running in Korea, should have been launched with all the new brakes last season and make a huge difference to the lever feel

I think one of the largest "We're not in Kansas anymore" moments I had when I began working for a component manufacturer after years in bikes shops was when I had the insignificance of aftermarket sales explained to me. Don't get me wrong, every brand worth their salt is going to support aftermarket product bc why leave money on the table, but OE sales are king in the bike industry and ultimately OE sales drives every design decision. SRAM gets to push the convenience of full SRAM spec by limiting cross compatibility. For brands like Canyon, Specialized, etc., who are...

EU has right to repair law going into effect July. I believe any motor sold new in the EU at that point requires repair parts for 7-10yr. So theoretically there will be parts out there somewhere in the world, hopefully parts trickle down to US.

The chainring doesn’t mount directly to cranks on eMTBs. Each company runs their own mount standard on the output shaft.

Just heard back from SRAM and they said the new service kits won’t work on the previous “A1” older models.

None of the motors are factory supported for out of warranty rebuilds in the US, my current understanding. I recently asked Bosch about it, and they only handle warranty repairs at the service centers. There are a few independent shops that will work on motors.
