I could see a few benefits - #1 less rigid shock mount will be able to clamp the hardware better, this has been an issue for a number of brands where the frame mount is too stiff so they get chronic bushing wear/looseness problems. Making a thinner welded part could be difficult, especially maintaining alignment so these bolted parts are probably more forgiving. #2 eliminates the "bathtub" under the shock that collects water and mud.

For all you forum diehards who skip the homepage, here is some insight and our thoughts on Specialized first-gen proto downhill bike that went live today - https://www.vitalmtb.com/features/piece-bigger-puzzle-testing-specializ… It was a privilege to ride this bike and, as you'd expect, it was a damn fast. I'm eager to ride the production #2chainz bike, which I'd guess is coming early next year just based on the vague answers Spesh has given when pressed about it. Fingers crossed it won't cost an organ to buy one.

IMO they nailed the V10 kinematics. Plus press love them and pros are doing well on them. I would expect the updated Nomad and Megatower to stay VPP since they have space to move the shock forward to get that ~120% AS.

With the current VPP system, they can’t get the anti-squat to where they want it, based on the V10 project. The shock can’t be moved forward enough b/c the motor gets in the way. If you look at the current Bronson/Hightower, that is why the shock is mounted further in the frame. They are moving the VPP towards Horst link...
Not really, marginal at best. Adjustability is the big change, being able to bring the lever closer or change bite point feel. They also firmed up the brake hose, which apparently makes the lever have a sharper feel. They made a running change to Evos, so if your main issue is lever position, I have been told TRP will send...
I have about 60 days on the Evo Pros. It’s a solid iterative update to the DH-Rs, I have two of the old sets on other bikes. Big change vs the old ones is that you now have a wider range of lever adjustment (much closer to bar) and a decent amount of bite point adjustment. They still kept the...

Not sure it’s related, but I just saw a pic of Pivot team running a new firmer compression tune in the shock, CL130. They could be searching for more support to prevent bottom out events that stress the frame, without increasing spring further.

Friend rides a Spindrift, opposite experience. He dropped by Vancouver HQ and they hooked him up with extra pivot hardware for his trip north. Their custom build program is pretty unique and their pricing is very competitive. I haven’t seen many Polygons in general. I think the big thing is, does the bike complement your ride style.
Interesting! Not sure how they got this far without picking it up, and I was going to speculate on other causes but decided against it. I've never worked on one of these And yeah having more oil on the seal doesn't help, although a failed RSU seal quickly makes a huge mess too. Ideally seals are always "leaking" a tiny bit to maintain a film on the surface, so the RSU fork should be getting at least some oil back up on the wiper. Good lubricating oil sticks to the surfaces so its not 100% relying on gravity. A proper...
