ASO promotes and sells rights to the grand tours, which is a different promotor to the mtb World Cup. The UCI provides the commissaire who enforce the rules, control the blood testing, uci ranking points etc but doesn’t control the broadcast rights to the grand tours.

Only Discovery knows the viewer numbers (assume if you're an advertising prospect they would share the numbers to prove the value) so only they would know if they are happy. Redbull did not share their live telecast numbers either.

Need more of this drone footage up high and less in the woods. Drone in the trees works for the xc but doesn’t seem to be able to keep up for dh

The purpose of DH racing isn't to sell dh bikes. It is for general marketing and to sell mid to high level trail and Enduro bikes.

I see it more as a consolidation of platforms. I don’t see Discovery selling the cycling telecast rights they own. Presumably the contracts are between Discovery UCI, ASO etc. and not the individual plat from. The telecasts will shift to another platform they already own. ESO are the partner that the UCI contracted to organise and promote the MTB World...

This simply doesn't add up due to broadcasting rights, etc. I'm guessing that these aren't included in the sale. The article also states that Discovery shut down the Eurosport player, which is complete bollocks because I've been watching road races and the DH world cup on it all year.

Yes they're a YT channel and started like that, but the road cycling coverage is massive full of really good commentators+guests with tremendous history and wins in the sport, they do this on a daily basis, broadcasts with dozens of hours of play. Plus the app has a ton of documentaries and shows exclusive to subscribers. I would say MTB (and DH in particular) is just a tiny little part of the whole thing.

The grooming part is what I was worried about too and kind of hopped was not true. I have come to like BK as a rider and what we see but that would make it hard to look at him the same way. That is just creepy.

Glad someone pointed this out. The narrative that DH is getting faster and more dangerous has been the same for years and years. The bikes are more capable than ever, riders train more and are fitter and stronger than ever - it's not too surprising that when everyone is pushing as hard as they are that when they crash, there's likely to be more speed involved and that injuries will come about because of it. There are things that aren't being done as well this year as they have been in the past, but trying to pin absolutely everything on...
