2011 was the old frecaster days. Redbull was in control while the cost or holding a world cup increased. Cant blame the ESO/Disco for Champery not biding.

Most XCO riders would be contracted until the end of 2024 at least. 2024 is an Olympic year so riders don't want to move to a new team / bike / etc. while focusing on the 1 in every 4 years Olympic race.

World Champs at Andorra slot into the end of the 2 month Summer break 28 Aug - 01 Sep 2024. World Cups traditionally don't clash with the TDF and Olympics which cover all of July and half of August hence the length of the break in 2024.

Hardline Tasmania at Maydena leads into the weekend of the 24-25 Feb. Thredbo Cannonball runs from Monday 12 - Saturday 17 Feb, 2024 traditionally has a host of international riders (this year Syndicate and Dorval AM Commencal teams had a majority of their riders) with more to make the journey Downunder in 2024 for the cash prize at Thredbo, Hardline...

Team tin-foil? The world cup rider's association has always been only the top 30ish men and top women riders. It was never a union of hundreds of riders and was never planned to be such. It was, from the outset, about protecting the careers of the most elite riders. As you said, "saw from the outside", so what you saw and what is reality in this case are two different things.

As a fluent French speaker who lived in France for 14 years, I can offer a bit of context. The “gypsy” term is basically used interchangeably with “camper”, not intended as a slur but more of a funny way of describing anybody living out of a van for a while…it obviously gets lost in translation here.

Yup, missed that one. Was marshal'ing XC when that race was going on and didn't watch the JR race. Was that guy just trying to cross the track? Because while bad, that's not nearly as bad as the MSA dude. Good point on the super-fans, but given't the amount of beer (or moonshine) flowing on the hill, it can be a short trip from super-fan into a super-idiot.

The GPS box has nothing to do with his handlebar control for the shock. It's provided to many of the riders by the broadcaster. They discuss it here (0:26) while installing it on one of the Canyon bikes earlier in the season... Other riders with it on their bikes...

Don't think the riders will be happy to be paid peanuts for the fringe sport entertainment for a few core fans?

"how poor did Xc look with riders getting off and walking / running. Doesn’t make it look a great TV spectacle." Ever watched or seen the massive crowds at a Cyclocross race? Up to 60,000 on course watching in European cities and millions watching on TV. Riders getting off and running a part of the deal.

Laurie was one of the first there rustling with the personel jumping around celebrating when Jackson had just finished his run. Syndicate coat, Syndicate shirt, Red Bull cap. Just rewatched the end. To me it did not appear that there'd be anything. After Bruni's interview Jackson was hugging Minnaar, Brosnan etc and there was probably what could be thought of ghosting.

Correct. It all started in July, 1994, when Cairns, Australia, hosted a World Cup series race. On that day fresh-faced 17-year-old Cadel Evans of Australia was racing his first World Cup event (Jnr's raced with Elite back in the day), using it as preparation for the junior world championships the next month. Roaring home in fifth position in a remarkable...

I thought that the 5 place podium thing came from a 90's XC world cup race in Australia. The organisers wanted to get their young up and coming rider, Cadel, on a step and it's been so ever since.

Rob has zero to do with the brand or race team after what turned into a messy departure early this year. 2022 was a transition to Steve Peat managing the team instead of Kathy Sessler. With the team having a Morzine base and fresh staff there aren't many of the old faces outside Steve and Greg from the days Rob...

I think after what happened in France, their plan is now to get the winning rider to safety up in the hot seat area. Jackson was just so pumped that he fought through it. I can see why the organizers are worried. It can't become the fans all jump the barricades at the end of every race. Anyway...what a race. Jackson utterly destroyed the rest of the field.
