4/22/2026 7:06am Looks similar to what Honda uses on a CRF..

4/22/2026 5:58am Something a lot of us probably didn't think about.. It would be hard to get, or uphold in court, a patent on something that has been done for years.. Decades even.. But, the original DW link patent has some pretty crazy variations in it...

4/22/2026 5:55am Honda's deraileur-in-a-box patent has recently expired https://patents.google.com/patent/US7503862B2/en. I had another look at DW's "adjacent drive assembly" patent that looks similar to the specialized and have seen that there are fillings that have been withdrawn and amended with different claims. The latest is pending with the US and has been withdrawn from the Europe patent application process, probably because it's difficult to make a unique claim when so many bikes with gearboxes and jack shaft arrangements have been on the market.

4/21/2026 2:41pm I had the same thought.. I guess they are putting extra weight near the BB while getting around a potential patent issue..

4/21/2026 8:42am Looking at the diagram on another post, how l9ng before someone offers a kit to make the primary drive a single chain to save some weight?

4/21/2026 3:48am I think the 24 and 26t is in reference to the final drive gear.. I recall one of the Sea Otter pics of the prototype having 24 written on the front cog..

4/20/2026 3:20pm There looks to be plenty of room inside on the drive side.. I didn't see a Pic of the internals..

4/20/2026 11:31am I'm thinking the primary drive is internal.. That small cag seems to be there for the chain to roll past the primary crank spindle. If you look at the black cover on the prototype pic, I'm pretty sure the primary drive is in there..

4/20/2026 4:08am I'm curious.. How does the staff feel about doing the coverage like this? I've personally liked it. Plus, the fact that others have been able to contribute what they saw and liked at the otter is pretty cool...

4/20/2026 4:05am I think the explanation given by one of the Cannondale guys put it best.. the front chain ring size affects the kinematics, so they can change gearing between the crank and the drive but leave the drive ring alone..

4/18/2026 2:16pm I'm guessing with the uncertainty around DJI and imports to the US, I imagine they are trying to make them as legally "separate" as they can, while still having the benefits of shared technology and of course profits....

4/18/2026 9:24am I think they are saying they are completely separate so they don't appear to have a conflict being a motor supplier and a bike brand. I suspect the ties are much closer than they want out in the public.

4/17/2026 2:34pm It’s Sea Otter my dude. It is far less of a race than it is a place to check out new products. I loved the og slalom course, but the dh run has always been trailbike territory, the xc in Fort Ord is legit, but that’s about it. The organizers most likely don’t care about the courses, they care about vendors renting footprints and consumers paying entrance fees.
