Women's XCC was 🔥, SO stoked for Blunk (definitely biased as she's local-ish to me...) and 32" wheels on the podium!

Sure, 3 seconds may be enough for a marshal to raise a flag. But that marshal would need to be placed between the down rider and Troy. So to follow your argument, they should have marshals stationed every 2-3 seconds down the track. That works out to maybe 100 marshal stations for this track. Realistically, when riders are only 2-3 seconds apart, as they are during training, it is not practical to expect a marshal to be able to stop riders at absolutely any position on track within 2 seconds.

The road crossing, however, is a different matter. They absolutely have someone there letting people on the road know when they can cross, and that person made a mistake. Luckily it didn't result in a rider getting injured, and hopefully they learned a valuable lesson.

But there is only so many blind landings.  in most situations on a dh course the rider has an opportunity to react.  If a Marshall was...

But there is only so many blind landings.  in most situations on a dh course the rider has an opportunity to react.  If a Marshall was there and made a mistake I suppose it happens.  But there wasn’t a Marshall at all.

I don’t expect everything to be perfect.  But this isn’t a local race hurting for volounteers and budget.  it’s a wc race in Central Europe at a long established venue.  If they can’t get Marshalls for the motorway knock down some jumps.  Or you know just get the Marshalls you need.

Watch it slowly and Troy passes the marshall who looks like he is reaching for his flag. Look farther down the track and you see Jed is still in the process of crashing and hadn’t even gone off the track completely yet. All this on a fast but fairly straightforward section of track that doesn’t see a lot of crashes over the years so probably why you don’t see a Marshall every 100 feet.

I’d feel the same way if was Jackson just like I don’t feel Hardline needs to pad every tree especially in a tech section like the one that took him out for a year

Don't debate Blake. He's old & slow. He can't comprehend World Cup speed.
His mind won't accept the sheer madness & ludicrous nature of a sport with unaccountable variables.
His brain handles finance & accounting.

We deal in chaos theory in my work. 😁

Moir's quali action vid

I'm really happy to see Men's Junior Nathan DeVaux starting 5th tomorrow after going 4th in timed training.

I had never heard of him until I recently watched the short documentary Dyfi Groms about the young mountain bikers and their families in the Dyfi Valley community. If you haven't seen it, you'll have to trust me it's a half-hour or so well spent.

It's free to watch on Youtube:

So which North American male rider is going to win this round? Wink . I only kid, but it would insane if somehow the streak kept going, even crazier if Dak or Pinkerton take it as a first timer, which they're both in a good position to try for.

dak's quali POV - still so hard to believe Top 11 in Q1 are separated by just 1.07. Add in Luca (fastest of day) and Amaury and Angel who also ran low 2:49 in Q2 and you get 14 riders in 1.1 seconds, just shy of half the finalists.

Shout with any comments/improvements as its a live project

This is amazing! Thank you

I hope Dak, but only because Pinky has more career left. I would be stoked with either one though

sorry to keep bringing up how close things were in quali, but...

  • waite and introzzi .001 apart - at 30mph, that's .5" / 1.27cm
  • dak and troy were .003 apart - at 30mph, that's 1.5" / 3.81cm
  • finn and craik were .008 apart. That'd have put Craik off a podium by 4.2" / 10cm

Pinkerton's obviously on one based on Q1 times, but for me the dark horse USA rider is Dylan Maples. I think he's due for a big result sometime soon.

the best part is when their splits aren't all that similar and still end up on these times.

i wish i could make the split screen gopro videos i used to make but gopro copyright struck my YT channel and then started doing them instead lol (but they still don't do it nearly enough, takes 10-15 minutes to do... they oughta do em more)

Anyone else see Finn hit a tree in qualies?

And was still in 3rd. Bonkers

That and then some...

It's a shame his stuff is high metrics and through GoPro/UCI because I want the unedited version. Censorship is so silly.

It's crazy to me how riders can find their form and just start killing it after so many various struggles. Good on the lad. The North American wins continue!! (Even in womens... Anna stole one out from under Vali, speaking of struggles, Vali was battling with this track hey)

Stoked for him.

Vali Höll's 10th place finish today was only the 3rd time she's finished 10th or lower as an Elite World Cup rider and the 7th time she's finished below 5th.

Last year she finished 14th at MSA due to a flat after leading through the first 3 splits. In 2023 at Les Gets she crashed in the first turn and finished 10th.

I always root for the underdogs so whoever takes it beside Vali, Loic and so on is fantastic. Happy for Anna getting back efter her injury last year.

I say we are winners as well. World cup finals is 4+ hours of gut-wrenching mayhem to me. I have to take a shower after this one.

Opening Champagne is all about the twist! I should be a World Cup Champagne coach/trainer.

Just wondering: When's the last time there wasn't a single French winner in any category after 4 World Cup races?

Always with the pertinent questions, you. I look forward to your posts after every event.

PS, pretty proud of this screen grab:
