We try. We keep trying. And yeah, when I say we, I really do mean me. Still just one bloke doing everything: product, riders, logistics, emails at stupid o’clock, the lot. No staff, no big safety net. Just belief and stubbornness.
The industry doesn’t make it easy for small independents. The big dogs have deeper pockets and louder voices, but that was always kind of the point. Do cool shit, build something authentic, and if it ruffles a few feathers along the way, so be it.
I’m proud that Viris is getting noticed in conversations like this. That’s always been the plan: start at grassroots, back riders early, and let the work speak. A lot of riders have benefited from higher retainers over the years because we made offers and then got priced out later, that’s fine. If it helps move the needle for riders, that’s a win in my book.
Let’s be honest, everyone cares about logos on podiums and TV. Of course they do. But contracts end, brands bid, and exposure gets shuffled around every year. That’s sport and that’s business. The fact we’ve gone from nothing to being mentioned alongside the big names, and riders like Greg Minnaar, is something I’m hugely proud of.
You’re also right on Oakley. Hate on big groups all you want, but Oakley didn’t become a benchmark by accident. Great product, great athletes, great timing. I grew up idolising that era too, those moments stick with you and shape why you start brands in the first place.

I don’t get your joke here… if it’s political, I need explained to me like I’m a kid and I don’t read the news everyday or understand anything about the present day geopolitical situation. If it’s about Lozza, and you already knew that he lost his mom when he was a kid, and that his dad raised him alone taking him riding and racing whenever they could, you should probably check yourself. But like I said, I didn’t get your joke, so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. I’ve been wrong before.

Surprised nobody picked him up. Then again he seemed to lose his luster.
I really like Greenland but not surprised he hasn’t been picked up. He hasn’t had the results recently and his legacy results aren’t good enough to earn him a spot for the “potential” to still get top results, especially with the new age kids. He’s still fun to watch and I hope he continues to get hardline opportunities and the like.
As I write this, I realize that he could still end up on Atherton, but not sure what the ROI would be except for maybe bike dev.
Laurie is one of my favorite riders, really nice dude. I wish the best for him and I really hope he’s been picked up by a good team and is just waiting to announce it for dramatic effect. I’ve been checking a few times a day

Hey there Vital friend. Sorry for my bad tone last night. It’s cool of you to say that. I’m a dad, and Greenland’s story is close to my heart, so I overreacted when I wrote my post.
This very good little film is why I know about Laurie’s struggles growing up. The Anthill guys made it, and it’s a great watch.

Does anyone know the UCI team announcement deadline date? Isn’t it soon? I’m ready for silly season to theoretically be over. Lol. Nothing really tops the Gwin news. I forget when the 25’ announcement was. I’m sure a quick google would reveal it. I feel like it was around January 20th.
The 2025 announcement was at least around Feb 4 because that’s the date on the articles about it.
Whatever happens to Laurie, I hope he’s happy.

IIRC 15th Januray is the team/riders registration deadline, it takes some time for the UCI to release the rosters then
Ya, they'll take a few weeks I imagine. World Series team announcement last year (for both gravity and XC) was February 4th. So probably be a similar time this year?
It will be interesting to see how Maples will perform this year with quite a different team! It's almost like an experiment to see if results are mostly rider-driven or if a top-tier team like Mucc-off is key to stepping on a podium these days. Anyway, it's probably the best acquisition Pivot could do to redeem their difficult last season!
2024, the team lists and rosters were announced Feb 1.
2025, the team lists were released Feb 4th, but rosters not till Feb 27.
So it could be anytime in February for the rosters 😁
