I'm sorry. If you're good enough to consider dropping in on MSA in the event that Jackson had a mishap and you're good enough to hobble as pictured in this video, you're good enough to to show up for the overall podium.

If his boo-boo was worsening, there were 4 hours to make a decision between final practice run and his race run. And it's not like he was particularly in a rush to get medical attention in that video. He's just moping around getting hugs.

In my opinion, going to the start to pressure Jackson but not dropping is a weird, chachi, top-dog, racer move. But I can understand it. But no-showing the podium is really poor sportsmanship.

Dakotah struggled to walk the track the first race he rode after his injury this year... Riding is different from walking and in Loic's case he might have pushed through and done a "safe" run

Good to see my comment’s super popular, lol.

There’s obviously nuance here. As I tried to say (but I think a lot missed), I’ll always be a fan of Loic, and yeah, health comes before showmanship. If his leg was showing signs of compartment syndrome, heading straight to the hospital was obviously the right call. I’ve had it. It’s gnarly.

My take was based on the assumption Loic was still thinking about racing. He was, after all, at the top putting pressure on Jackson to risk his life down the hill, hoping for a mistake. In the moment it felt to me like if you’re good enough to play that card, you’re probably good enough to be a gentleman, shake his hand, spray some champagne, and hobble off for a few beers (or whatever). Be the regal professional and role model we all know. I realize that kind of stuff matters to me more than it does to most people, maybe a loose reaction to someone else in the zeitgeist who’s broken every social norm so long as it’s legal.

Anyway, it sounds like my base assumption was wrong (he probably shouldn’t have even been at the top), and he definitely wasn’t as okay as I thought. As a result, I sound like the crazy ex-girlfriend yelling into the wind about point “Z” when “A” wasn’t true. JEFF WAS WRONG!

Either way, I’m glad he’s okay. Hematomas are usually easy to heal from, and he himself said the crash wasn’t catastrophic.

PS: If there’s one thing I do know, it’s nuking myself. Done it plenty. Pretty sure there’s even a Vital podcast floating around where I ramble about exactly that.

PPS: Asa had the fastest time of the day. 2026 is going to be nuts. Being a DH racer has to be one of the hardest ways to make a buck on the planet (I’m serious).

About your PPS, I'm sure any child mining cobalt by hand in the Congo would disagree with you (I'm serious).

Mate, ‘hardest’ can have different connotations.

Hard as in the chances are slim of ever even doing it and even the smallest drop or slump in performance might mean you’re out of a job.

Not hard, as in unenjoyable.

Another thing that may help give Loic the benefit of the doubt for skipping the ceremonies is if he wanted to seek medical treatment asap so he could make it back in time to see his baby born. perhaps he had his flight already booked and may needed to have made a choice b/w showing up at the podium vs. getting taken care of so he could bounce asap.

Yeah I got that, I wasn't really serious in comparing child slavery to pro DH-racing. I'm sure many pro sports are just as hard or harder though to make a living from unless you're at the top.

You literally put (I’m serious) at the end of your statement.

Goldstones POV is so sick, the crowd was insane.

Course wide the crowd was probably bigger than Les Gets. Was a good setup in that the areas below the finish line was ticketed ($20), anywhere else was free. At La Thuile the whole finish area was ticketed and the crowd was small. More people were outside the stands trying to get a glimpse of the screens.

I am so glad Jackson pulled it of with one of the greatest runs ever. That pre hop was absolute insanity.

It would have been so awkward if Bruni had "tricked" Goldstone into destroying himself for a run that he did not need to win.

I think they spesh team were hoping for a flat, but still would have been a bad way to get an overall.

Sucks for Loic, but if he was not able to ride by the time finals started, should have made it public IMO.

Anyway, Canada delivered and Jackson had his very deserved overall. This season was nuts and the next one could not look better!

Less than 72 points is 11th place or worse. But any placements with less than 72 points in Jackson's favor would have seen Loic win. So a possible scenario is something like Jackson comes down in 6th place, which is worth 125 points. Loic would then have needed more than 53 points, which is 18th place or better. It's possible at that point that he might have found a way to roll down the track into 18th place, who knows.

That scenario was probably in his head and fair play for him waiting to see what happened. Jack was going for the win no matter what and the top times when he dropped were super tight. When Loic was set to drop 2-7 were within a second. He probably looked at that figured he couldn’t win and couldn’t get the 2 or 3 he needed so pulled the pin.

I did the night after the race.

I tried watching it last night on HBO Max and it wasn’t there. Really strange they took it down. Women’s and both junior categories are there. Just no Men.

Great question.. I ended up trying to Google around to see if people on reddit, PB, here were mentioning something similar.

I had to dig quite a bit to find it as I was having the same issues when trying to use the search function. I ended up going through the "Replays", and swiping through to find the event, and then I finally found the Men's Elite race replay.

The Tiz-Cycling web site has full replays of the MSA races.

Loic has made some posts on socials. Short version was that he was in the medic tent for the podium, straight to the hospital and stayed the night. Caught the first flight he could back home and made it in time for the birth of his son.  Congrats papa.

Yep was just gonna comment that for some reason the search doesn’t ever show elite men’s for me, along with being the worst search function on any app I use. I’m fine paying money to watch but the Max app is embarrassingly bad. Worse than Peacock.
