Thomas Genon off Canyon. Thomas Lemoine was already known. Interesting to see where they're heading...

Do they really have the uncaged thing in their DH team also? The Enduro team can chose whatever components they want, but the DH team looks different.

E.g. here are the world championship bikes from Oisin and Sian, exactly the same component brands other than the grips: https://themag.yt-industries.com/article/world-championships-2023-a-loo…

Vali Höll said in Snowshoe she is sad because she won't work with some brands anylonger. I thought she meant Rockshox/Sram. Maybe it's uncaged in 2024 and she can ride RS/Sram stuff.

I wonder how exactly the uncaged setup works because there’s no way Jack Moir isn’t getting paid to run sram. I wonder if they just use it as an excuse to pay riders less because they’re “free” to pursue personal deals?

It was pointed out a ways back, but Intense is going HARD with their history posts. That tells me that they're gearing up for a new team launch?

Think Jack is on the SRAM Blackbox program. Think YT just pay for all there other components they decide to use, this way they aren’t getting stuck using stuff they don’t like, ie: Tyres…. And they can bounce around and try new stuff throughout the year with out infringing on contract that might be put in place like other teams. ie: Kade Edward’s getting nailed for wearing a fox helmet when the Trek team was sponsored by 100%.

If you’ve got $10k for a quarter panel when the tier 1 team’s quarter panel goes for $150k, Rick Ware will put your name on it.  He’s a hustler.  On the SX side, he’s not the fastest paying boss from what I know.

That was a horrid situation.  Come out of 250s as title holder, jacked his back up, missed half the year, showed up for his first 450 qualifier and got 7th....then the season flipped him off & he rolled into that new team and POOF! No team. No money.

We talk about DH having some quick flip circumstances but SX is just evil.
Granted, it's not like DH where you have to travel the world to get to the big events if a team folds.  You can at least drive yourself across the US for SX season in a pickup.

Which is why we really need a big money backer for a US National series like Hendrick Auto.

Shane with MDK or Ware?  Both are interesting characters.  However, MDK is a legit billionaire.  He also owed Travis Preston a lot of money when he owned the Jagermeister SX/MX team.  Had to take Kvamme to court for it.

I was thinking more on the financial side. Surely YT aren’t just footing the bill out of the goodness of their own hearts?

Breeden off of IFR and maybe a hint the team is done?

Seems smart.  If a rider can bring in their own sponsorship money they can get a team together without needing to find more sponsorship money in order to pay everyone and force everyone off brands they have longer relationships with.  Seems win win to me.

Exactly.

I’m all for people making money riding bikes, but it’s a bummer that sponsorship deal went to an Instagram “influencer”, rather than someone who’s actually out racing and trying to make a name for themselves.

I’m all for paying racers good money but if all you sponsor are racers you’re missing out on a huge portion of the riding market.

Most of riders don’t care that much about racing.

Leaving the Union is a good thing, means they got picked up by a larger team and that’s the purpose of the Union team.

To comment on two previous posts...
-IFR is done. This was known for a while. New junior team in the works.
-Yes, YT "Un-caged" is likely done for 2 reasons: 1. So their team riders can be on the stuff they want to be on to get the best results possible. 2. Allows people like Jack and Vali to also get paid by SRAM/Rockshox--thereby lowering YT's burden to pay a hefty salary to top riders.

Jack made it clear last year (his first on YT) that he wanted to stay with SRAM/Rockshox to keep everything but the frame the same to it was easier to adapt to a new bike. But, he is getting paid by SRAM as well to run said components. Surely Jack reached out to Fox/Shimano in 2023 to see what they'd pay him, if he raced on their stuff in 2024. If it was as much, more, or close to SRAM, he probably had them send him parts to test in the off-season. He then weighs the situation. If Fox/Shimano couldn't come close to matching the SRAM deal, then he stays on SRAM. These guys need to make money while they can.

Alternatively, Jack's two teammates this year likely don't get paid by component companies. They just collect the check from YT an they procure their desired parts for the bike.

Also, Jack will not be on on a mix of Fox/SRAM stuff... The brands at play will not let him run stuff from the other component manufacturer AND pay him at the same time. He can mix-n-match brands all he wants, but if he wants to be paid by them, they will require him to be on all Shimano/Fox or all SRAM/Rockshox.

Regarding YT my question is, in a nutshell, are they paying their riders lower than average salaries because they don’t have cash coming in from component brands? Yes a big name rider like Jack Moir has the opportunity to capitalise on this by carrying over his personal sponsors but I bet the other guys are seeing almost nothing from individual component deals.

12/27/2023 11:59am

Probably just got a good deal on a bike. A lot of "sponsored" riders don't actually get paid at all.

Speaking of IFR what ever became of Seth Sherlock? When he was signed they made it sound like a pretty big deal. He proceeded to not race any DH and some random enduros and just kinda disappear?
