Considering how even the T7 compound is super squirmy on the butcher they really should redesign the Hillbilly to make those knobs more buff for their height. Pretty much nobody rides the Wetscream or Michelin Mud, same stuff here, tall skinny knobs are not where it's at.

So, uh.. no XC bike?
Some friends who sell commencals showed me the pictures of the final version, if I remember correctly only the top of the line version with öhlins suspension is going to be available in November, the other models start shipping in early 2023. It looks like the prototype they were testing earlier this year.

I've seen it, now it looks like a HP Demo on steroids. Worlds better than the current one, but still not a looker.

I chatted with some Commencal folks at MSA and they stated the new bike would drop this fall and they would have web pre orderers at that point but deivery would be spring 2023.

These knobs look like Shorty or Magic Mary height rather than Wetscream, obviously either way it's for sloppy conditions where squirm is worth tolerating. I like the feel of T9 and I'm happy to see a winter tread using it. YMMV

The original Hillbilly was as a cut down Wet Scream, which everybody did anyway...

Another look at the fox electronic shock, does it look removable?

For pure slop yes they would work, same as the wetscream, but how many riders do you see using the wetscream, even in the worst conditions on the WC circuit ? Pretty much none as they all prefer the Short. Rumor was that the shorty was a cut down Wetscream but even the first gen wasn't, anyone who put those side by side could clearly see that the Shorty knobs where much thicker (and obviously shorter yes). Even f for slop it works marginally better, for roots and rocks it sucks as it is really not precise.
The hillbilly is probably 20% smaller surface knobs than a shorty or a MM and 20/30% taller, even in 2.6 those knobs still look like really old school mud tires. So skirmy that I ended up cutting them to be half decent on other stuff than slop.

Ancillotti showed their new DH prototype bike (finally with capable to take standard damper - here a Formula MOD). Looks pretty identical to their Scarab Enduro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iLHOH-jur0

The Ancillotti Proto is riding along since spring, production ready in a few weeks / month…
I have a Scarab Evo and the main issue is the rear shock. Everything else works fine, also the bushings. But the shock is tricky…just to different springs (nothing normal fits), only rebound with no clicks and only a Plattform but no compression. I tried to fit a old Van R inside it, works good but not enough space between, so hopefully Tomaso will make a update on the Scarab V2 in the future

Presumably you are talking about the previous version, rather than the just released one with the new tread pattern? Do you have any experience with this new tyre?

This is what the press release says about the new tread design.

A new tread design features deep centre knobs and high-volume shoulder blocks to bite through loose soil. Block-in-block transition knobs reinforce the tyre structure and aid traction and stability everywhere, from ploughing deep loam to railing rock slabs and charging over slippery roots.

Sounds like they are trying to address some of the issues you had with the new tread pattern, the knobs look lower/wider and more akin to the other tyres you mention, rather than the previous generation Hillbilly.

Looks like a good improvement and hopefully that is shown in the performance.

Good catch ! Initial post was just saying that is was the Hillbilly with the new compounds, and since the center blocs are exactly the same that the previous one I didn't squint at the picture to see the rest. I still have my doubts tho as those center knobs are very flimsy and from experience T7 is a very squirmy compound. If T9 is more stable it could work.

Quite happy I didn't pull the trigger on over this year. Du you have contact to determine if he will change the Scarab next year? Can you tell me how far the seatpost can be inserted?

Neko mentioned in his video that he was tested a Alu rim for Reserve.

Another pic of the new Giant Reign, looks like they're testing Fox's electronic shock. Heard some rumours about it, it will be the Reing X while the current Reing 29" will still be available. Has 170mm travel on the front, 160 on the back, mullet or 29". Launching late spring/early summer along with the new Glory.

Laurie also may have been short a set of saint cranks if Shimano is no longer producing the old cranks and didn't have fresh ones ready to break cover yet. Slik Graphics make a saint decal that could have been slapped on a hope crank in the mean time. I can see them wanting to have an event of sorts post WC team announcements for the new saint group closer to WC season.

I think we now know which short cranks he's been running...

I'm not in the market for an E-bike, but I appreciate that Ibis is going in the opposite direction of most e-bike manufacturers nowadays. Someone at a design meeting must have said "F*ck making it look like a regular bike, let's make it look like a futuristic space motorcycle!"

Coming back to Commencal bikes, we've talked with a friend to some commencal guys during world champs. They displayed the DH and new Enduro protos in the brand stand and we asked when they would be available. He answered that the DH was the most advanced and should be ready by the end of the year, but no date for the enduro (that would be in line with a release only in 2024). I don't know if the information is robust though as apparently some of you guys have different dates in mind. Also they had in mind the french/european market, I don't know about overseas Smile
