Yup, it's been discussed here quite a bit.

As for the freewheel, it doesn't change anything, the kickback stays the same. The benefit is the you can shift while coasting as the drivetrain still moves. But I'm still irked by the fact the cassette pushes the chain forward or pulls it through the derailleur. Which is tighter with modern clutch derailleurs, but still not the same as pulling it forward from the front over the cassette...

Plus, what happens if the chain derails itself? I mean other than instant drivetrain detonation.

re: front freewheel concept - as a kid i remember a friend's old Ross 10-speed had something like this. after some googling, i guess it's a shimano product called FF or Front Freewheel. i always thought was cool to shift while coasting on a 10-speed back in the day

Seems like a fun way to go through chains more quickly

I know a guy using that system and he tested it, there is not a single bit of wear change on chains because chain turns without any load in the system

Yeah, wear wise it should be more or less a non-issue.

Wonder what would happen if you ran it without a fixed hub. I get you couldn’t shift at anytime but wouldn't it still help with pedal kickback?

When the original sender came out did they not offer something that disengaged the rachet in the rear hub and achieve much the same result?

That's "Project Dis\Connect", it was showcased at Eurobike 2016 but never used outside of that (to my knowledge)

that chain line doesn't look like it kinks into an idler.

Yeti's patent had two options, seems like they went with the "simpler" one.

Good find! Would shudder to think how pricey that bike will be.

FFWs (front freewheels) have been in use on trials bikes for some time. i remember seeing one in person prior to 2010.

Saw this fatty at Eurobike. It's not on their site, but was mentioned in their service manual a few months ago.

Looks like a current shimano BB tool fitting. Guess those weren't in every '80s toolbox.

Dual freehubs won't help with kickback past the point of having more slack before you engage them. Kinda like having a very low number of engagement points in your freehub to begin with.

I would hate to be the one changing idlers on an ebike... The wear on those (and the chain) should be insane.

The current 36 durolux is 20mm also

Setting up the Durolux caught me off in one key way. The fork is designed around a 100x 20mm through axel, which is going the way of the buffalo outside of downhill bikes. You can get different end caps for the plethora of compatible hubs, but it is definitely a factor that needs to be considered.

sooo, does anyone of our hobby engineers spot anything new/special on the suspension designs compared to a normal 4bar horstlink? interested in where the switch infinity system is hidden since the logo is on the chainstays.

I’m guessing the switch it connected to that extra bar ring up from RT to the upper link. I have no real reason why just besides it kinda looks like it is there

The switch is hidden in the migration path of the bottom pivot on the center (vertical) link. See that migration path 60 in the center? That's the reversing migration path (Switch). Also note the rearward axle path with tangency line 74.

does this mean the axlepath might be more rearward than on the current switch infinity models?
