BTW, regarding bike proportions, to me it seems that bikes look the best with the top tube perpendicular to the headtube. Have it more horizontal and bikes will look tall and maybe a bit longer than actually (but mostly high), while having it slope down even more extremely will make the bike look very short in the front end, at least to me (case in point, single sided Demo).
Given the pictures, yeah, it does appear to be on the smaller size (seat height), but still, the front centre is quite a bit longer than the rear is. And with a high pivot the effective chainstay (the lower link) is longer than with an ordinary lower pivot layout of course.
New YT Capra soon to be released? Can’t wait, really looking forward to seeing this bike.

Is it just me or do these high pivot bikes only exist because of 29inch wheels? Back when we rode those microscopic 27.5 wheels you could run a really small BB drop which lets you get away with quite a high pivot without much chain growth. But these new 29ers need at least a 25mm drop reducing the amount of rearward path you can get for that amount of chain growth. It gives manufacturers two options go for the specialised method and just accept the pedal kick back or go for the trek approach and have an idler.
Yeah, larger wheels definitely do not help with this. To get a decent amount of pedal kickback the axle path is more forwards (I wonder how the better rollover and the more forward path offset each other...) on larger wheels. That's a two fold negative, the chainstays tend to have to be longer because of the bigger wheels as is, but the packaging is much more of an issue too, hence the bent and offset seat tubes.
We just need a Pinion with a non-concentric output gear (like on an Effigear).
I feel like the high pivot train started doing well just before the 29er revolution really hit the ground finally though, the supreme V4 and norco Hsp were first of the current batch of high pivots and norco had to shoehorn the 29's into the HSP frame after the fact since they did a straight to carbon design with 27.5's. I think they just happened in line with each other.
I'll wait for the geometry chart, it might look shorter than what it is as there's quite a bit of overlap between the top and down tube. I'd be surprised if they go shorter than their newish trail bike (forgot the name)

Pedal kickback isn't the issue they are solving but it's a welcome gain.
The benefits of rearward axle path and lengthening the CS under compression within reason is the secret sauce.
Definitely has the aesthetics. Might be there best looking trail/enduro bike they've made so far

If pedal kickback isn't what idlers are solving, why have them anyway? It's their main reason for existence.

What keeps an Intense from being ugly is to keep the guy in the paint/sticker department the hell away from the designs.
Not seen a good looking color scheme & sticker/paint patter in years over there.
Meanwhile YT is making bikes with no logos that look sexy as crap. I mean, even Kona is making good looking bikes now with the "less is more" graphics.
I remember lusting after this one (though probably still the 26" version, same colour though).
As for pedal kickback, I think it was brake jack, yeah, at least Santa Cruz said they don't really look what kind of jack values they have designing bikes.
Pedal kickback for sure is a thing, just depends on the speed and size of drops you ride.

The seat tube is steep for Intense standards though. But a steep seat tube just requires a longer reach to not have an insanely short top tube...
