Plus, with a super deluxe, you have two sets of shims on the piston (one is for the rebound) and one on the bridge. Which set covers which type of bump? Does shimstacktor cover this?
Just having different tunes published would be an immense help. Buy a shock in the right dimensions and retune it according to the published data. If they sold the packs it would be even better. The way it is now its almost impossible to buy the correct super deluxe for a bike that doesn't come with one, if it needs a special tune.
I'd put a good chunk of change on The Norco DH bike we are seeing is the new Range with a modified dropout and link to accomodate additional travel and to change up leverage curves and what not to better suit DH. One of the photos of blenki at NZ champs you can see a raw alloy dropout and unpolished lower link.
With the sight being 150/160 it makes for the Range to move up to Super Enduro and be 160/170-180. I'd wager Blenkis bike at NZ champs was 180/200 just based on visual differences in that rear dropout length.
Norco has revamped every bike in their lineup (road division aswell). The Aurum hsp which technically is now the oldest was the first of the big changes to the previouse banana shape themed frames lineup. Norco is a big company but they aren't that big and therefore money has to be used wisely.
It makes total sense to build the DH platform off the new Range until it's viable and the market is there to layup new molds for a dedicated DH bike.
Super Enduros and DH bikes are already so similiar. I'd wager the difference between a HP super Enduro and HP DH bike is an even smaller gap.
From the Beta print magazine apparently.
Most of Norco's gravity team juniors and elites also race local, national and EWS events through the year so give em a bike that can easily be converted be a different bike with just a few parts changes. CRANKWORX is becoming bigger and bigger with really good pay outs. Many elite riders are now making sure they get to these and compete. Traveling with one bike and some parts is a lot cheaper than two bike boxes.
I'd also wager this bike is able to be run with a mullet set up right out of the gate. That lower link drops so low under the BB it gives them ample room within the suspension package to keep BB Heights and even rear centres the same when using different wheel sizes.
