Is this a list of only trade teams? Or is the catch with Brayton that he's essentially a privateer? Or am I wrong on both accounts?

Brayton was officially listed last year, under the Hope team, and that was essentially him "doing his own thing".

Ah gotcha, then yeah I am not sure. I know several folks that are running their own race programs or UCI race "teams" but aren't listed so I am not sure if thats still the case with Brayton or if its something else. Like you said though, even tho he was on Hope, he was essentially his own privateer program in a way.

I think more privater or « doing its own things » didn't pay the UCI to get the license specially if you don't know if gonna to race this year.
The UCI license is so expensive, maybe some a cutting the budget

I am a firm believer that average joes need better brakes than the pro's, average joes drag brakes longer and aren't as good at modulation. Average goes use their brakes way more down the same track. I stopped running sram cuz the fade and lack of power. Magura for life! Very happy to see alot of the world cuppers now riding Magura's. They really are a better all around brake! Also rumor has it a big name will be going to Magura this year.

They can be the best brake bar none, but as long as the master cylinder is plastic and snaps off like a twig, I wouldn't run them even if they were free. Faded Srams require a short pause to cool down and continue the big, epic day out. A broken lever is day over.

Food for thoughts:
Out of the Top 20 Men WC DH Overall Standings, after most team transfert done
13 are now on Fox Suspension
4 on Rock Shox
3 on Ohlins

Are Fox products that much better?
Are they (Fox) giving THAT much more sponsorship money ?
Are they offering such a superior support at the race?

If you would be a top 10 guy, would you rather have a "personal" custom support like Loic & Ohlins or be with the mass and go where everybody else go because you'd feel they truly offer something better?
The reason there is more Fox than Rock Shox in the top 20 UCI World Cup DH:

1. Fox is spending more on sponsoring teams than RockShox right now. These top teams don't just go 'pick' their suspension supplier. They are sponsored by the brands. And right now Fox is throwing more cash at it. If the two deals are close then the team will go with who they prefer. However, if Fox is willing to supply forks + $300k in sponsor dollars for a team, vs. SRAM who offers forks + $100k, the team is going Fox!

2. The other part of the equation is SRAM is big on either sponsoring everything or nothing. This is also a reason teams may not want to be sponsored by them. And it's not always because the riders don't want SRAM brakes (or something like that). It's about dollars. Gwin for instance is on TRP, Fox, because he's getting paid more by TRP than Shimano or SRAM. And SRAM wouldn't sponsor him with a drivetrain if he was running Fox suspension. Another example that is somewhat similar is the reason that Specialized switched to Magura brakes for their racers. They were running SRAM drivetrains but didn't want to use SRAM brakes so a compromise was made for them to run Magura just as long as they didn't run Shimano. There is a lot of stuff at play at the pro level. It's seldom about exactly what the rider wants.

I think she is taking a step back from WCDH but wants to still ride events like Crankworx and IXS.

@RiderMikeCheck1 Specialized was on Sram back in the day, when it was Monster Specialized and then when Troy was on the team. Gwin threw a wrench into it, requesting FoxX suspension and he got that. After that, Gravity Republic switched from Lapierre to Specialized, but they kept full Sram sponsorship in the move. Then came the Ohlins switch, which complicated things, as they dropped Sram as a sponsor. They were and still are buying Sram drivetrains, covering up the logos (more or less what the Athertons do as well, or Scott/Brendan Fairclough, who runs Sram cassettes with a TRP derailleur), but yeah, Ohlins suspension and magura brakes. BUT! The Gravity Republic at first ran Formula brakes, it was the XC team running Magura. And after a year (or two?) of that difference, they consolidated and went full in on Magura.

While not being in the know, I would though too say that it's the fact that running different brands opens up more pockets and gives the option of more sponsorship dollars as opposed to running Sram stuff. As far as I've heard it's sort of similar on the OEM side - Sram requires you to buy 250k worth of gear to get the good deals, while with Shimano it's only 100k. But it's kinda easier to reach that with Sram due to the amount of stuff they offer, but this is also the reason why so many bikes come with Sram drivetrain, brakes (or Shimano, as opposed to smaller brands), even suspension, but it's also probably a VERY big factor for the popularity of Reverbs. And the 250k mark is also the reason they offered wheels a while back. Just more stuff to reach the cash goal.

They will ride mountain bikes.

Apparently UCI jumped the gun a bit on making the teams public.

They seem to do that every year. Didn’t they break Tahnee’s move to Canyon last year?

IIRC one of us (vitalmtb user) saw her at Canyon HQ, but maybe that was rumored before...

Definitely. I meant they released the rosters before the official announcement from Canyon.

Yeah, they're not going to be on Polygon this year, new bike supplier hasn't been announced yet.

UCI did not jump the gun. Deadline for team applications and published date of teams is set well in advance every year.

I now feel like UCI media liason, but misinformation helps no one.

UCI team registration for gravity is not very expensive - ranging from €700 - €3,500. Especially for 2021 as you get guarantee entry to World cups without needing 60 points. This cost also includes anti-doping contribution.

If your riders have enough points then you get many benefits for the registration fee, pit space, entry fees, passes etc..

Individual rider license cost is decided by national federation, not uci. UCI do many bad things, but team fees are ok
