It does what it was designed to do. And it hugely depends in which link is longer overall. With the same layout you can make the floating brake link antisquat or pro squat by juet changing the link length (they used to all have adjustable length through threaded rosejoints and Saracen also had an adjustment built in).

Finally got around and through the topic, so yeah, late to the party. My 2 cents (haven't built a lot of wheels, haven't tested things out much, only thought some details through) and I think most of it has been covered as well. The wheel for sure hangs from the top spokes, no way around it. The spokes we use, the way they are laced, do not give a compressive support, so the bike is carried by the top spokes. What the bottom spokes do give is stability though. Spoke tension shouldn't give much of an impact on wheel stiffness...

He has a point, technically his sponsor here is merely a platform for users to share whatever they like. It is strongly associated with the kinds of products and services the UCI doesn't allow, but itself is essentially just social media. I think the UCI should reverse this decision, it sets a precedent that will make a lot of large companies wary of investing in riders as advertising space (think TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).

Jeff, as I read your posts, I think the thing you're missing is that Micayla is an artist. Cody Warren is a bad comparison to Micayla because he's not an artist. I don't know what our 2005 US Men's National Champ is up to these days, but I don't think it involves sketch pads, paint brushes, or regular trips to Blick Art Supplies. And the fact she's a female mountain biker/artist/former world class racer is kind of a big deal. Maybe it sends the message that people can contribute worthwhile stuff to - and be valued by - an industry they care about without having to be the most successful racer of all time ever because nothing else in the world matters.

you say above, "puts resources behind someone who really isn't a racer" - micayla has 79 races listed on rootsandrain. doesn't factor in any local races she's prob done. the last RnR result is from 2020 and i have no idea when she officially competed last, but why do you get to say she's not a racer?

You can want a brand to support whatever scene you like, no qualms there. I think it's a bit uncool to declare MG is only working with TLD because she's 'more attractive than most', and saying a successful prior racer doesn't fit the brand because they don't compete anymore. I would guess your comment would have been very different about them hypothetically supporting/collaborating with a Peaty, Gracia or Palmer for example. Rob Warner is head to toe in TLD - he doesn't race anymore so must solely be getting those sponsorship bucks for his looks!

Guess what? None of this is about you or for you. And I’m using ‘you’ both personally and as a larger term for 30-45 year old historically stereotypical males of mountain biking, which I assume you largely are. This line of clothing was not designed for you. This marketing campaign wasn’t derived to appeal to you. Not everything within bicycling has to be for you or about you. And when it is not about you, you do not need to respond and complain because it doesn’t fit your view of what should be happening.

When was the last time you were on a world cup podium, won junior worlds medals or were a 2x national champ? Micayla Gatto did all these before she retired from racing.. Don't be a dick.

pretty sure history proves that TLD has supported hundreds (thousands?) of racers over the decades and racer support is still the huge bulk of what they do from pros to up-and-comers. i think it's rad they're stepping out a bit.

Saracen as a whole did that, they tuned the anti rise with it. I commented that on Pinkbike and Saracen's designer confirmed my comment. FWIW, Saracen's was a single pivot (they have a multilink proto out now?) while the cube is a multi link bike, which makes a floating brake less necessary or less useful than on a single pivot. It's likely there for testing purposes.

Just a floating brake mount. You can see the connecting rod below the chainstay. It's nice to see a quick and dirty prototype in the wild instead of one that someone wasted time making look good just for proof of concept testing.
