Sounds like fun- but would you have bought it at full price? I'm guessing that build they have is a $12k investment for a weak motorcycle/heavy dh bike. Too much compromise in these E-bikes right now.

Unfortunately riding up singletrack is what is showcased in the video. They are not marketing it as simply a shuttle-assist motor. Where I ride it has taken decades of erosion studies, community meetings, and volunteer trail stewardship to get mountain biking to be seen in a semi-positive light. High speed bi-directional trails would be a nightmare from both a usage and design standpoint. It seems like an über lightweight, low-power shuttle assist motor would be a smarter product.

I really hope these don not catch on. If they do, I foresee some serious trail access conflicts arising as owners take them on non-motorized trails touting them as mountain bikes. I'm sure the advocacy groups who have it out for mountain bikers will thank us for the easy ammunition for getting us banned and our designation changed from mechanized travel to motorized. Also, it seems like a pretty successful way to remove a lot of the "athlete" from the sport. :-/

Great write-up! Also, it's a good thing Blenki was throwing out a fair share of style on the jumps. Otherwise, it might have been too close for comfort between you and him...not that .4 sec is a lot of time between you both. CONGRATS!!

I don't get why people are moaning that he gave up and could have got on the podium. It's world champs the only place that matters is 1st. No points to be had a this race. To qualify in first, be on bike that has been made especially for this event then come off in the first corner you would be like "WTF" and mentally be screwed. Hope he just laughs this race off and kills it on the next two!

Are you sure? Timed timing is used as starting order for Worlds and there is no need to worry about top 20 being protected, as all of the riders qualify

FWIW Smith won the Crankworkx Air DH this year on another brand new bike ( DeVinci Troy ), so hopefully he won't have any trouble jumping on another new rig. It does seem like a risky move though.
