I think they're just having a bit of fun... notice the $100 bills with "PINNED" for the serial number. I like the raw carbon underneath the stickers.

Graves made up 12 places solely on the pedal section last year at PMB, so it will be interesting to see what he does on an even lighter setup. They should just split the track and put an un-timed liaison stage in the middle

In summary, what were "French cheat lines" in Whistler are now great photo ops, CG gets a 30 second penalty for not wearing a helmet and no one cares, and big wheels are definitely superior despite Clementz and Graves killing it on 26". Mmmmmk.

Dumb question, but what are the rules for starting? Seems like you can't pedal but you can push-off pretty hard? Lot's of the heats were decided by a good start.

Actually that can't be right - written rules can't be superceded ad hoc at a rider meeting. Guidance can be given, but to be able to re-write the rules at a meeting, with no procedure, would be unfair, confusing and chaotic. You can't change the rules in the middle of the game. It's like an agency making up new rules without following proper procedures, or the police enforcing a law that hasn't been properly passed by the legislature. But you can inform riders how the existing written rules will be interpreted and enforced in a given set of circumstances at...

The funny thing is that even Graves has said in his race diaries that he started the practice for stage 4 from the house they were staying at, which he says is at the bottom of stage 4. Given that I live in the area and know the trails they were riding on I can tell you that he was staying in Alpine Meadows Sub-Division, which is 5.5Km from the base of Whistler mountain. Fair points, however I disagree that the EWS lack politics. They were vocal about making an example of a high profile rider before Cworx even started, and Fab was just a convenient fall guy. They're trying to make Clements their new poster boy, but he has been seen and even penalized for course cutting in past rounds. Call me a cynic, but I see the EWS largely as a new marketing platform for $10K trail bikes and ex-DHers to extend their careers.
