also, all this talk of "lets turn downhill into X" just doesn't make sense. what's wrong with letting downhill be downhill?

I'm confused, maybe I'm misreading this, but are you complaining that a mountain biker is getting paid? Remy makes great content, his videos are meticulous, and clearly he works hard at it. I feel like this is a place where we support riders.

Gatekeeping is generally a bad thing. Not inviting someone to Rampage is not gatekeeping, full stop. The number of fans someone has should play no role in the decision process. If it did, do we invite Seth's Bike Hacks? Again, Dylan is amazing at fulfilling the niche he's created, but he did not have 'style' at Rampage. A big part style as Rampage is your riding between the few most critical moves. Are you throwing roost and slashing on thin ridge lines? Are you tossing in manuals and nose bonks in your connector sections? Dylan did non of those. He...

The purpose of DH racing isn't to sell dh bikes. It is for general marketing and to sell mid to high level trail and Enduro bikes.

I think they canceled the race to save BK's life. Did you hear the wind gusts at the top before he dropped in? Anyone who's jonesing so hard to win that they'll hit a 90 foot gap in a 20 mph cross wind (and then does it, successfully) deserves their medal.

Bernard Kerr is TEAM ROBOT's consensus 2023 Hardline World Champion for being the first (and only?) one to do a full practice run in those windy and wet conditions, including both 90 foot gaps. Give him the gold medal.

When I see bikes like that (and the new Pivot, Demo, intense etc.) it makes me appreciate what Neko is doing with Frameworks even more.

That is totally true. It’s very expensive to build and maintain a fast modified 250f, and then only get 10 hours of run time out of it. But that’s only in elite level 250 pro stuff. Lots of professional 450 privateer bikes have stock motors. Modern four stroke moto bikes are very reliable with basic maintenance (air filters and oil)

I race moto and MTB. Moto is more expensive especially as you get faster. Don’t forget track fees, oil, gas, tires, chains sprockets, generally more gear, unless you live near a track there is the truck van etc transportation. When you are learning some things like brake pads will last you a long time, MTB tires are “almost” the same...
