THE BIKE CATEGORY and the INDUSTRY People who love to ride downhill now tend to ride an Ebike instead of pedal up an equally heavy enduro bike. So it´s not the race close to what most do as everyday riding. 12/29/2025 10:30am This. Oven cleaner removes the annodizing (or annodized color) it can make it so easy. But I found some parts fully resisted the oven cleaner. I don't know the why for the resistance.

I polished the seat clamp, axle, brake hose ends, and crank arms on my first Ripmo. I used a bench grinder with a well worn stainless steel wire brush wheel to mechanically strip the black ano from the parts. Time over pressure. Deep scratches greatly increase polishing effort. Built shine from there with varying grades of both scotch brite and polishing compound. The better your final finish, the less maintenance required to maintain. No clear coating required. Still running all of these parts on a Ripmo V2 and they’ve held up well.

42 and riding a hardtail and a rigid bike on the regular. Doesn’t beat me up any more than the squishy bikes do, just gotta ride differently. Til the day I die I’ll be in the “everyone needs a hardtail” camp. Fun to have a fleet of bikes (got 5 mountain bikes and two road bikes), but damn it’s a lot of work. Rare that one of them isn’t needing some kind of maintenance.

12/16/2025 12:37pm Built up a Banshee Enigma after I cracked my previous hardtail. It's in heavy rotation on the low elevation and valley trails during winter. It's a different kind of riding that keeps riding fun, makes mellow trails fun again, and ups the skills for techy moves, jumps and slabs.

Under biking requires maxing skills to increase capability, which can make trails more spicy (fun to me), and lower grade trails more engaging. Which could lean towards the one bike to do it all. Personally I think a mid-sized non-removeable battery and a good range extender provides a best of both worlds Removeable battery that drops out the side or the front of the downtube add considerable weight. The options that drop out the bottom of the downtube with minimal work being the best compromise.

Anyone have plans for replacement motors/batteries? Could do a core charge type thing where you buy a new motor for $1000, but send in the core and receive $500 back. Same for batteries. I think people (myself especially) are concerned about long term durability and finding replacement parts. I'd be happy to purchase a new OR refurb motor 5 years down the road. Get rid of lifetime warranties and just make replacement parts easy to find and buy.

None of us know the context and parameters for an updated visual brand refresh. Nor do we know how much influence, positive or negative came from Ohlins themselves. Did they need to update from the college font O? Yes in a big way. Is this perfect? No. Will you accept it. Yes. Does it communicate forward thinking technology more than the college font graphics? 1000x yes. Does Ohlins need to lean into new and tech? Yes. Will quality of the product determine the quality of the visual brand? Yes. Do you need torches and pitchforks? No.

Context is everything. Just imagine you’d never seen the original Öhlins logo, then somebody presented to you today, a free college font wordmark with a box around it, and the first letter of the name as the logo. It would be laughable. The only thing it had going for it was familiarity. Öhlins badly needed a refresh. Their products have never been the most exciting visually. Whilst slightly lacking in personality, the new icon is versatile and provides loads of options for product graphics. Once this starts to appear on forks and shocks I think we’ll forgive them.

Showing up to a federal land agency meeting with heat maps printed discussing decommission was an eye opening experience. It’s a great tool for them to identify and remove any trail that was a significant amount of time to build. Your 2 minutes of enjoyment likely was 100 hours of work or more. And it just put a bullseye on the trail when you published your ride. You can remove sharing heat maps on your settings, not make rides public and hide your maps. Or just not strava those trails.
